Combat Challenge Difficulty Differences in Silent Hill 2

Combat Challenge provides players with three levels of difficulty when it comes to fighting enemies and bosses in Silent Hill 2. These combat variations can provide an easier time for those in Light, while a more punishing and skillful time for those seeking the Hard difficulty:

• Light - Enemies and boss fights deal low amounts of damage and James' weapons deal more damage
• Standard - Enemies and bosses deal an average amount of damage and James' weapons are balanced for the combat experience
• Hard - Enemies and bosses have more health and their attack patterns are more aggressive and hit far harder than normal

Puzzle Challenge Difficulty Differences in Silent Hill 2

Puzzle Challenge Difficulty comes in three variants, and this difficulty can only be selected at the start of a New Game. Each difficulty will offer a variety of challenges for the puzzles, riddles, and codes found in Silent Hill 2, so players experiencing the game on Light will have an easier time than those embracing the Hard difficulty:

• Light - Easily discovered hints and clues for all puzzles and riddles

What's the Recommended Difficulty For Silent Hill 2?

For players who are experiencing Silent Hill 2 for the first time with Bloober Team's remake, the most optimal difficulty for both the Combat Challenge and the Puzzles Challenge is set to Standard with the Interface Preset set to Modern. These are the default settings that are described as the best to represent the vision behind Silent Hill 2. While more hardened veterans of games, and Silent Hill 2 might want to experience things on Hard to further challenge them and their gaming skills, those desiring a more balanced experience can keep things on Standard. However, there is still no shame in players tuning things down by selecting Light, which will make Silent Hill 2 a more narrative-focused game, but not without its share of challenges.

How to Change Difficulty in Silent Hill 2

Players can change the Combat Difficulty and Interface Preset in-game by entering the Gameplay Settings in the General tab. While players can change the combat between Light, Standard, and Hard, it is worth noting that players cannot change the Puzzle difficulty once they have started a game of Silent Hill 2, and they will be forced to start a New Game if they wish to do so.
