Silent Hill 2 Remake DLC May Not Be Coming After All

A potential DLC expansion for the 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2 that had been teased earlier in the year may not be coming, at least anytime soon, based on commentary from a voice actor who seems essential to its creation. Many fans have been expecting the Born From a Wish side story to be added to Silent Hill 2 for a few months now, and it seems likely that they're in for disappointing news.

Providing a new edition of the classic horror game that keeps its original story intact, Silent Hill 2's remake was released on October 8, 2024. With the creative team celebrating the game's first anniversary just a few days ago, fans discovered that the Silent Hill 2 website had hinted at more potential versions of the game on the way, and many seemed to be hoping that the long-lost side story would be making a return.

Silent Hill 2's Born From a Wish DLC May Not Be Coming to the Remake

In early June, reputable leaker Dusk Golem broke news about the Silent Hill 2 remake's DLC, stating that, to the best of their knowledge, Konami and Bloober Team were planning to release it, and that its official announcement was likely "just around the corner." More than three months have passed since then, and now, voice actor Salóme Gunnarsdóttir has made public comments that indicate that she has no knowledge of the DLC project even happening. During a recent Twitch stream in which she played the game for the first time, the actress who portrays Maria was asked multiple questions about Born From a Wish by fans eager for a status update. Gunnarsdóttir eventually responded by apologizing, explaining she had not recorded any new dialogue for a Silent Hill 2 DLC, and stating that she doesn't know anything else about it.

If her comments are true, it would be very unlikely that the DLC is anywhere near completion, if it is even in the works at all. For the original game, Born From a Wish provided a short parallel Silent Hill 2 story focusing on Maria, which wraps up by coinciding with the main story at the point when she meets the base game's protagonist, James Sunderland. Not originally released as a DLC, Maria's side story was was packed with special editions and re-releases of the game starting in December 2021, when the game was first ported to Xbox.

It is also possible that Gunnarsdóttir was fibbing with the intent of keeping an official announcement under wraps until Bloober Team and Konami are ready to make it. Potential rumors and leaks from voice actors can be a problem in the gaming industry, so if the DLC is being developed and Gunnarsdóttir is aware of it, the creative team's leadership may have given her specific instructions regarding what she's permitted to say about it.
