A trademark filed by Bloober Team – the developer of Silent Hill 2 remake – and registered by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has recently been spotted, and fans think it could be linked to the studio's next project. Silent Hill 2 remake was a major success for both Konami and Bloober Team when it launched in October 2024, earning very favorable reviews from critics and selling over 1 million copies in just four days, shining a spotlight on the survival horror studio in a way it had never really experienced before.

Founded in November 2008, the Krakow-based Bloober Team made its video game debut with History: Egypt – Engineering an Empire, a 2010 DS, PSP, and Wii game based on the History Channel documentary series of the same name. Bloober Team's first foray into the world of horror came in 2016 with Layers of Fear, a psychological horror adventure game revolving around a mysterious painter. Though Layers of Fear earned the studio some recognition, it was 2017's Observer that really put Bloober Team on the map, with it earning much praise from critics. Though Blair Witch and The Medium earned less favorable reviews than Observer, they kept Bloober Team in horror fans' minds, and the recent one-two-punch of Silent Hill 2 and Cronos: The New Dawn has finally cemented Bloober Team as one of the leading names in the modern survival horror space.

On January 1, 2026, Reddit user Solid-Entertainer-39 posted a link to a EUIPO page in the GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit. Following this link takes users to a trademark filed by Bloober Team S.A., case number 019026286. This trademark is for the title 'Onyx: The Dark Grip,' which Bloober Team originally filed in May 2024, and EUIPO officially registered and published a few months later in September 2024. This registered trademark has an expiry date of May 2034 and has Nice Classifications of 9 and 41, with the former being electronic software-related and the latter being associated with gaming as a form of entertainment.

Though this trademark was officially registered and valid from September 2024, Bloober Team hasn't used the Onyx: The Dark Grip title in any official capacity yet. That said, fans currently have a theory that Onyx: The Dark Grip will be the name of Bloober Team's next game, potentially the one that the developer has been teasing since this trademark was first spotted on January 1.

At the stroke of midnight (UTC) on New Year's Eve, Bloober Team posted a GIF on X that depicted a line of red text pulsating against a black backdrop. This line of text read "remosdneulserorehsoovamceyerd," with some letters featuring upper-case and bold stylizations. This X post also contained a link that leads to a webpage consisting only of a countdown, which will seemingly end on February 15. Some fans believe this countdown could end with the announcement of Bloober Team's next game, which could feature the trademarked title of Onyx: The Dark Grip.

Bloober Team currently has at least two projects officially confirmed to be in development, codenamed 'Project M' and 'Project F.' Not much information has been given about either project, only that Project M is slated for a 2026 release for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and that Project F is also internally slated for 2026. It's possible that Onyx: The Dark Grip is the name of one of these projects, though again, that's purely speculation at this point.

Of course, Bloober Team is also working on a remake of the first Silent Hill game, which was officially announced during Konami's Press Start Showcase back in June 2025. It's unclear how far along in development the Silent Hill 1 remake is, but as of a September 30, 2025 investor call, it is officially being worked on by one of Bloober Team's two first-party production teams.
