Abstract Daddy is one of the boss fights that were heavily re-designed for the Silent Hill 2 Remake. From the build-up to the fight itself, the Bloober Team did a great job of revamping the complete fight, making it more blood-pumping and fresh for all players. Even though in the original game, the encounter happens in a locked room, the remade version expands on it, adding a whole new chase sequence and the final confrontation.

When players are introduced to Angela in the beginning, they can already get a good idea of her troubled mind that reflects in her body language. That troubled past has now conjured up this manifestation of her abusive father that James will now have to face. So, it's best that you'll have a stockpile of ammo because you're going to need it.

How to Beat Abstract Daddy in Silent Hill 2 Remake

Players will encounter Abstract Daddy after entering, more like descending, into the labyrinth area. After walking down a corridor, you'll hear Angela pleading to her father from an unknown location. At the end of the corridor, James enters the room, watching Angela lying on the floor. After a brief conversation, the Abstract Daddy will appear and charge at James, pinning him against a wall.

After a struggle, the wall behind James breaks and he lays his eyes on the monstrosity that was responsible for it. This begins the first phase of the boss fight, a long chase sequence. Do note this is a three-phase boss fight, so be prepared to pick up ammo along the way and make your shots count to avoid running out.

Surviving the Chase Sequence

This is a run-and-gun portion of the fight. So, let's break down to how to survive this, so you can move on to the final confrontation with the boss.

As soon as you take control of James, run away from the Abstract Daddy through the hallways until James arrives in a large living space right next to a locked door.
Now that you're out of the narrow hallway and into an open space, start shooting handgun bullets at the monster.
Once it tries to lunge at James for a grab, dodge at the right second and start blasting your shotgun at its back.
The Abstract Daddy will shriek after a while, disorienting James for a second. However, perform a quick dodge after James recovers, as the monster might run towards James for another grab.
Keep dodging its attacks and blast its back with a shotgun until everything turns dark and the monster retreats from the area.

This will mark the end of the first phase of the boss fight with Abstract Daddy.

Locate Abstract Daddy Again

After surviving the first phase, players might think that they've defeated the boss. However, there are still a few more encounters to go. Now the goal here is to locate the boss once again. So let's break down this phase as well.

Now head towards the door that was locked before and start walking down the hallways.
At one point, you'll see Angela running to the left. Once you reach that point, don't forget to pick up bullets from the table on the right.
Keep following in the general direction of Angela until you see her going through a crack in the wall. Enter the little space and wait for the monster's sounds to stop.
Once the sounds stop, exit the area, and turn right. Go through the door and keep going through the hallways until James arrives in a room with a static TV playing a recording.
Once players break the TV, Abstract Daddy will burst out of the wall. This portion of the fight is similar to the first phase. Simply dodge the monster's attacks and shoot at its back.
Keep repeating the process of dodging and shooting until Abstract Daddy disappears for the second time.

This is the end of the second phase. Now players will need to follow the monster's aftermath to confront it for a final showdown.

Final Fight with the Abstract Daddy in Silent Hill 2 Remake

Now that it has retreated again, James will have to track and fight the boss for the last time. Let's explain how to find the boss again, which will lead the players to a final confrontation with it.

Go through the space between the steel bars, turn right, and then vault over the hurdle. You'll see another hiding space ahead. Make note of it as you continue down the hallway.
Abstract Daddy will burst through the wall, run back to the hiding space, and wait inside for it to lose track of you. Doing this is recommended to conserve ammunition.
Now you'll see another space to squeeze through the steel bars. Follow the path and go through the room with flesh walls and a fan at the end.
At the end of the path, you'll see another TV that you need to break to reveal a new path. Go down the path and squeeze through a few steel bars until reaching a room with another TV.
Breaking the last TV will transform the whole level into a fleshy nightmare. Keep following the path until you come across a huge ventilation fan.
Vaulting across it will get you into a large open arena where you'll face the Abstract Daddy for the last time.
Repeat the same strategy here. Try to dodge and maintain your distance from the boss, especially when its speed kicks into overdrive.
Damaging the boss' back is the best way to inflict the maximum amount of damage.

After shooting Abstract Daddy enough times, it'll fall on the ground defeated. This will trigger a cutscene with Angela as she reveals shocking details about her abusive past. This helps players understand why Angela's behavior is so erratic, especially in the presence of James. After the boss fight, players will be able to venture out to explore the Labyrinth section in Silent Hill 2 Remake further.
