Sifu developer Sloclap announced a brand-new game at The Game Awards 2024 called Rematch, a soccer-based competitive sports game. Sloclap is best known for Sifu, a kung-fu-based action game released in 2022. It received a lot of generally favorable reviews from critics and fans, many praising the game's combat mechanics, story, and difficulty. The game was nominated for various awards at The Game Awards Show 2022, including Best Indie Game, Best Action Game, and Best Fighting Game, though it ended up winning none of them. Sloclap then released a Free Expansion for Sifu known as Arenas, giving fans a completely new experience. The upcoming Rematch is far and away very different from Sifu's action-heavy gameplay, being a soccer-based title.

Revealed at The Game Awards 2024, Rematch is a soccer game where players compete against each other in an online environment. Unlike some more realistic takes on the genre, such as EA's Fifa series, Rematch has a blend of cartoony sports arenas and semi-realistic humans, with players being able to compete in areas underwater, in the jungle, a desert, and even in space. The beta for Rematch will open in summer 2025.

Rematch is Sloclap's New Soccer Game

Rematch gives off similar vibes to Nintendo's Mario Strikers series, which focused on more arcade-like action and cartoony gameplay. Unlike Strikers, Rematch is focused on giving a slightly more realistic experience, with players being able to control their shots and where they go from behind the soccer player instead of a side perspective. As such, some fans may find it may have more similarities to Rocket League instead of Nintendo's series or Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions.

Players can register for Rematch' s beta on PC via the Steam client, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, with invites being sent out at a later date. Many fans of Sloclap were completely caught off-guard, as many expected a potential sequel to Sifu or another 3D action game and not a sports-based game like Rematch. Regardless, many fans were hoping that Rematch could be a fun time, as many noted the amount of passion that could be felt in the game's trailer.
