Shueisha has revealed the details of the 2025 Seinen Manga Newcomer Award, a prestigious accolade granted to the best new mangaka of the seinen category across the publishers' set of magazines. This includes Weekly Young Jump, Ultra Jump, Grand Jump and the digital publication, Tonari no Young Jump.

There are 10 categories to be contested: Battle/Action, Sports, Romance/Romantic Comedy, Gag/Comedy, Character, No Genre, Storyboard, Tonari no Young Jump, Grand Jump, and Ultra Jump.

The top entrants in each of the aforementioned categories will be moved on to the final selection round, the winner of which will be set to receive a cash prize of 5 million yen (approximately US$34 000). The Runner-Up of the Seinen Newcomer Award will receive 2.5 million yen (about US$17,000), and the special jury award winner will earn 1 million yen (about US$6,800). Category winners will earn 500,000 yen (about US$3,400), while category second prize winners get 300,000 yen (about US$2,000), and the special award winner earns 100,000 yen (about US$680). The judges for the 2025 Seinen Newcomer Award include Aka Akasaka (Oshi no Ko, Kaguya-sama: Love is War), Toshio Sako (Usogui), Satoru Noda (Golden Kamuy), Yasuhisa Hara (Kingdom), and ONE (One-Punch Man, Mob Psycho 100, Bug Ego, Versus). The application period opens on Thursday, May 15, and will run until September 30. There are no limitations on the number of pages, nor are there any eligibility requirements apart from the work needing to be written in Japanese. The Seinen Newcomer Award was first introduced in March 2024 in commemoration of the 45th anniversary of Weekly Young Jump, and there were 45 categories in that installment of the contest. The Award is based on the 100 Million Yen 40 Manga Award contest held by Shueisha in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Weekly Young Jump. The new contest includes new categories like "Mascot Character Manga," "Vertical Manga," and "VTuber/eSports Manga. The Seinen Newcomer Award follows the Jump Next Generation Battle Manga Award that was held in August 2024, and was judged by shonen manga legends including:

  • Black Clover author Yuki Tabata
  • Kōhei Horikoshi, author of My Hero Academia and Barrage

The 2025 Seinen Newcomer Award will be running from May 15 to September 30.
