Summary

  • Shin Megami Tensei 5 and its DLCs will be delisted on June 13 in preparation for the enhanced version, Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, releasing on June 14.
  • With Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, Atlus listens to fan feedback by enhancing features, adding a new story path, and expanding platforms.
  • Players who already purchased Shin Megami Tensei 5 can still play it, but new content and improvements are only available in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance.

Atlus has announced that it will pull Shin Megami Tensei 5 and all its DLC from the Nintendo Switch eShop. The game and its additional content will be delisted on June 13, on the eve of the release of its enhanced version, Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, on June 14.

Atlus is no stranger to releasing enhanced versions of its RPGs. After the original Persona 3 was released, Atlus launched Persona 3 FES with new content and quality-of-life upgrades. Persona 4 received the Persona 4 Golden edition, while Persona 5 got the upgraded Persona 5 Royal. However, when a new version hits the stores, Atlus usually allows consumers to purchase both the original and the enhanced versions, as the latter doesn't behave like a DLC but rather as a whole new game. This apparently changed when Atlus promised that Persona 3 Reload wouldn't have a re-release.

Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance takes a microscope to every feature, improving them drastically while providing plenty of new content.

According to Gematsu, which translated the announcement on Atlus' official website, Shin Megami Tensei 5 and all DLC are being delisted from the Nintendo Switch eShop on June 13. Shin Megami Tensei 5 is being delisted one day before the release of its enhanced version, Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. This ensures that players purchase the definitive version of the game instead of one lacking all the extra content and quality-of-life enhancements. Those who already purchased Shin Megami Tensei 5 will still be able to play this version of the game, but if they want to experience all the new content in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, they'll need to make a new purchase.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 and DLCs Being Delisted:

  • Shin Megami Tensei 5
  • Shin Megami Tensei 5 Digital Deluxe Edition
  • Downloadable Content Bundle
  • Return of the True Demon DLC Quest
  • A Goddess in Training DLC Quest
  • The Rage of a Queen DLC Quest
  • The Doctor's Last Wish DLC Quest
  • Mitama Dance of Wealth
  • Mitama Dance of Miracles
  • Mitama Dance of EXP
  • Safety Difficulty (Free DLC)

These Shin Megami Tensei 5 DLCs are being delisted because they will be bundled into Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. Many new additions and quality-of-life improvements are due to fan feedback regarding Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. From player critiques, most referred to the lack of prominent characters relevant to the narrative. Now, Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance focuses on the story, adding a new story path called Canon of Vengeance that diverges entirely from the original Shin Megami Tensei 5 storyline.

Furthermore, the original game came out for PC but was console-exclusive for Switch. When Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance launches on June 14, it will also be released for PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. The game was originally due to be released on June 21, but after FromSoftware announced that the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC would be released on the same day, Atlus brought forward the release of Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance.
