As indicated on the Tomb Raider website after the full game reveal in April, today at Microsoft's E3 briefing, a new Shadow of the Tomb Raider cinematic was revealed. At the beginning of the year, Square Enix announced that it would be releasing the next chapter in Lara Croft's journey that promises to be the most difficult Tomb Raider game to date.

The new Shadow of the Tomb Raider cinematic gives more details surrounding Lara Croft's story in the latest Tomb Raider game. The trailer shows images from the awe-inspiring Mayan landscapes that Lara will visit in the game, as well as the spectacular interiors of some of the tombs. The cinematic also reveals that in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the artifact that Lara is searching for and protecting from Trinity, is an ancient dagger that unleashes great chaos. The trailer also reveals a few new faces that will be accompanying Lara on her journey, as well as a mysterious new villain that "wants to alter the course of humanity".

Square Enix has also promised to release a gameplay trailer for Shadow of the Tomb Raider at E3 this year, which should give more details surrounding the combat and weapons in the game. From the promotional material released so far though, and from this latest cinematic, it is clear that the game looks great and should offer a worthy conclusion to Lara Croft's journey that started in 2013 with the Tomb Raider reboot.

The game and its various special editions are available for pre-order now, and Tomb Raider fans that pre-order the game will gain early access on September 12th of this year, two days before the Shadow of the Tomb Raider release date. PlayStation and PC fans are also happy to know that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is not a timed Xbox exclusive, like its predecessor, Rise of the Tomb Raider, was.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on September 14th of this year.
