People play video games for many reasons, such as to experience impressive visuals and immersive sound. While sight and sound are vital aspects of many games, the sense of smell is omitted from gaming due to technological limitations. However, Sega wants to change that by giving gamers the chance to smell like their favorite gaming characters thanks to a new line of products.
Sega has published some of the most popular video game franchises in the industry and has decided to use some of these high-profile series to launch a collection of colognes available for purchase. Following the launch of these fragrances, fans of the gaming company can now smell like several iconic video game franchises. In addition to featuring a unisex scent, each of the bottles contains a striking design. These official Sega colognes are expected to release in December.
The first cologne in the new Sega collection is for the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Featuring a vivid blue bottle capped with a silver top, it encapsulates the personality of the Blue Blur. It even has a picture of the titular hedgehog on the front. As far as the fragrance is concerned, the company describes it as a unique combination of citrus, grapefruit, lemon, and lime. According to Sega, Sonic himself gave the scent his seal of approval (assuming a fictional video game character can do that).
In addition to Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega also revealed a cologne for the classic Shenmue franchise. Like the other colognes, it includes an impressive design on the bottle. This design features a fearsome tiger, along with the title of the video game series. According to Sega, the cologne is “rebellious and addictive." Based on the product description, the cologne combines the scents of cardamom, bergamot, golden tobacco, orris, and patchouli. Just as Sonic gave the Sonic the Hedgehog cologne his seal of approval, Sega says that Ryo Hazuki approves of the Shenmue fragrance.
As if these popular video games weren’t enough, Sega has rounded out its cologne line with a scent based on the popular Yakuza series. According to the company, the theme of this cologne is focused on the night. With a dark black finish and accented gold top, the bottle design reflects that design choice. In addition, the company claims that the cologne will have the user “smelling like the Tojo clan’s finest crime boss!” The scent includes oak, cedarwood, beeswax, bourbon, leathery rose, and pimento.
With the release of these video game-inspired colognes, it will be interesting to see how many gamers decide to purchase these fragrances based on Sonic the Hedgehog, Yakuza, and Shenmue. Time will tell if the company decides to expand the line with more scents based on classic Sega characters. For example, it would be interesting to discover what a Dr. Eggman scent would smell (or stink) like.
