Secret Level Creators Support Keeping Concord Episode In Series Amid Backlash

Talking to GamesRadar+, Secret Level creators, Tim Miller and Dave Wilson, say that they never had any reason to want to remove the Concord episode from Secret Level. Deadpool director Miller said that it was never brought up by Amazon to get rid of the final episode that included the controversial Concord title and justified keeping it in the series because there are other titles in the mix too, like Unreal Tournament, which was a canceled first-person arena shooter video game developed by Epic Games. Although Miller does acknowledge that the fan fury surrounding Concord is different from that of Unreal Tournament, he adds that they just really liked the episode due to how great it looks, as well as being very proud of it.

"And I can't see any reason why we wouldn't put it out there for the fans. I know people like to point out and go, 'What are they doing?' Or, 'Why would they do this?' And honestly, it's simply because we're proud of the episode and it looks cool. The fact that the game is no longer around is unfortunate because we liked the developers, they were nice people, and they were trying to do the best they could. But it doesn't affect our desire to put this thing out in the world that we worked very hard on and so did they, and a lot of artists."

Secret Level's executive producer, Dave Wilson, also adds that the decision to include Concord in the animated anthology series was made years ago as the aim of the show is to include games from the past, present, and future. Echoing Miller's previous comments, Wilson also says that he's very proud of the episode and feels it's a "lovely legendary story about this crew." He did admit though, that he has found it difficult to read some of the comments on Secret Level's YouTube trailer, but that his desire is that even with preconceived ideas surrounding the episode, viewers will end up still enjoying it.

Even though Concord didn't work in the gaming world, it now has a fantastic opportunity to shine in Amazon's animated TV series. Given the rise of game adaptations in recent times, which include The Last of Us, Fallout, and Arcane, Secret Level's Concord episode has the chance to turn its negativity into a huge positive U-turn in another medium.

Secret Level will be released on Prime Video on December 10.
