Sea of Thieves is a game that has done commendably well in learning from its shortcomings, by altering its play style and implementing new content to keep things fresh and stave off tedium. While developing studio Rare has achieved this in a variety of ways, the addition of offering content via in-game seasons has undoubtedly been one of the best.

With Season 6 of Sea of Thieves releasing in the very near future, fans are inexorably wondering what additional content the update will bring. From a slew of new cosmetics to more tangible gameplay additions, Season 6 promises to be one to remember.

The Plunder Pass

A staple of the different in-game seasons for Sea of Thieves has been the addition of a seasonal Plunder Pass. The Plunder Pass is Sea of Thieves' answer to the widely adopted "Battle Pass" system of multiplayer content which is now commonplace in most contemporary online titles.

At the cost of a one-time purchase, players can spend 999 Ancient Coins in the Pirate Emporium to purchase the new seasonal Plunder Pass, which will contain early access to brand-new cosmetics and other items that players can unlock upon earning "renown" via adventuring. With Rare adopting the Plunder Pass system in early 2021 to good effect, it has become a mainstay of the seasonal updates that is sure to keep fans engaged.

Sea Forts

Perhaps the most exciting addition to Sea of Thieves that will be heralded by Season 6 is the introduction of Sea Forts. These Sea Forts will serve as the Sea of Thieves version of raids, with exceedingly rare loot being available to players who successfully conquer a fort.

The Sea Forts themselves are heavily defended fortified structures scattered throughout the map, containing different stylistic appearances relating to the corresponding region of the map in which they are found. Players, along with their crew, will have to face off against waves of ghostly phantoms upon attacking a fort, with an intimidating Sea Fort Captain serving as a final boss. Upon the successful slaying of the Sea Fort Captain, players will have a bountiful array of awards available to them in the form of chests, providing an excitingly fresh manner in which to earn loot in Sea of Thieves.

Brand New Cosmetic Sets

Another well anticipated addition to Sea of Thieves' seasonal updates is the implementation of new cosmetic sets that can be used to customize a players' character. In addition to providing character customization, these cosmetic sets can also concern weapons, items, and ship cosmetics.

The first cosmetic set that will become available with the release of Season 6 of Sea of Thieves on March 10 is the Dark Relics set. While the appearance of this set is currently unknown, it is safe to assume that it will be thematically consistent with the game's Dark Relic treasure voodoo dolls, with the cosmetic set likely containing a creepy voodoo-centric vibe.

Other cosmetic sets available within Season 6 will be the Naval Commander Set and the Spring Blossom Set. Although these two sets do not match up to any previous content by name in the same way the Dark Relic set does, it can be assumed that they will respectively feature a regal naval outfit and a flora-rich costume. The last cosmetic set promised for Season 6 is the Islehopper Outlaw Set. This cosmetic set will likely be the most befitting of a pirate in comparison to the other three sets, while also possessing punk-like spike elements, if descriptions of the set's weapon skins are anything to go by.

Sea of Thieves is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
