JRPGs and Japanese-inspired RPGs feature several go-to mechanics like fishing, and Sea of Stars is no different. Luckily, players don't have long to wait before they get a chance to do some fishing. The option becomes available once lead characters Zale and Valere have defeated the giant slug after they complete their trials.
Once players leave the Forbidden Cavern, the duo can take a left to the fishing pond and start fishing immediately without the tedium of buying or locating a fishing rod. However, Sea of Stars does leave it up to the player to work out the mechanics. Here's what gamers need to know.
How To Fish In Sea Of Stars
The first fishing area that Zale and Valere can use is Sunglow Lake. However, before they have access, they must complete the Forbidden Cavern, defeat the first Sea of Stars boss, and walk north to Sunglow Lake by taking a left from the cavern's exit. Enter Sunglow Lake, check the board for the shapes of fish available, and get ready to cast the line. The most challenging fish are usually found at the furthest end of the pond.
Stand on the dock and press the Cast button to throw the line. Aim the rod in the Fishing Minigame in any direction, and drop the weight by pressing the Kick button. Steer the rod with the left and right buttons of the L Stick. Be carefil not to pull the fish in the opposite direction too fast. Instead, move the directional stick as slowly as possible.
When a fish takes the bait, try to center the line as much as possible and gently reel it in. If the line flashes red, avoid reeling and follow the direction of the fish. Otherwise, the line will snap, and the fish will be lost. When the fish leaps out of the water, press th e kick button to daze it and use Reel. Avoid trying to rush when using the reel action, and if using a controller, loosen the pull when it vibrates. When the fish is close to the leading character, hold down the Reel button, and the fish will be caught.
Players now have the choice to fillet fish or release it. If the party is short on food, it's a better idea to fillet, but if they want to set the fish free and back into the pond, it has no bearing on the story.
Sea of Stars is available now for the PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
