Scream 7 has been confirmed to be shooting in Atlanta, Georgia, with production set to begin in December 2024. Atlanta is an interesting location for Scream 7 to shoot in, with Scream 6 having a couple of links with the place. It doesn't necessarily mean Scream 7 will be set in Atlanta, as it has become a popular shooting location for a bunch of Hollywood productions, but it would make sense if it was also set there. Fan favorite, Kirby Reed was an FBI agent in Scream 6, and her field office was based in Atlanta, so this could hint at her possible Scream 7 return, with the Ghostface killings potentially taking place on her patch.
In addition to this, Scream 6's opening sequence, Ghostface killers, Jason Carvey and Greg Bruckner went to middle school together in Atlanta, which could link to the location being the central hub of a Cult of Ghostface in Scream 7. Both of these killers were suspected of being part of a wider network of killers trying to finish Richie's movie, so a Scream 7 Atlanta setting does make perfect sense. It's long been rumored that Scream 7 would feature a Cult of Ghostface killers, so maybe Atlanta is also where Sidney Prescott is living with her family when the attacks start up again.
Scream 7 Could Feature Kirby Reed At Her FBI Atlanta Field Office When The Ghostface Murders Start Up Again
Hayden Panettiere spoke of her desire to return as Kirby Reed in Scream 7 during a recent fan convention, according to Beyond The Mask's YouTube video. However, Neve Campbell is the only cast member confirmed to be starring in the sixth sequel. Rumors suggest that Kirby could get a spin-off movie or television series instead of returning for Scream 7. However, the recent confirmation of Atlanta, Georgia as Scream 7's filming location hints that Kirby might actually appear in the new movie after all, with Atlanta being the home of her FBI field office.
It might just be a coincidence, and Scream 7 is merely filming in Atlanta, Georgia, because it's a popular and cost-effective location to shoot in, and Spyglass Media are known to be frugal about production costs. But it's difficult not to connect the dots between Scream 6's constant mentions of Atlanta in relation to Kirby and the cult of Ghostface. Having said that, Scream 7 will probably ignore Scream 6, so Atlanta could have no relevance whatsoever.
The Cult of Ghostface angle is heavily rumored to feature in Scream 7, and there were hints at its existence in Scream 6, and this would be difficult to ignore. Scream 6's Ghostface killers, Jason and Greg's Atlanta connections, make it possible that FBI Agent Kirby Reed had been investigating the pair before they moved to New York City to attend Blackmore University.
Kirby Might Team Up With Sidney And Gale To Defeat The Cult Of Ghostface Or Be Killed Off
Scream 7 could be set to feature a final girl team up of Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers, but they might need some extra help if they are faced with a Cult of Ghostface attack. Kirby has survived two Ghostface attacks in Scream 4 and Scream 6 respectively, so that firmly classes her as a final girl to be reckoned with. If Scream 7 is set in Atlanta, where it's also being filmed, Kirby could be close by to help Sidney and Gale take down the Cult of Ghostface.
Even if Hayden Panettiere only has a brief appearance in Scream 7, it could help to set up the rumored Kirby spin-off series. Alternatively, Kirby could be the opening kill scene in Scream 7, with the FBI agent being tracked down in Atlanta by Ghostface, and then the movie could shift the focus to another destination, where Sidney's family reside. In a discussion on Reddit over a year ago, the idea of Kirby being killed in Atlanta in Scream 7 was brought up by Redditor BenedictCumonback:
Had a thought about a possible location for Scream 7. If they are modeling the trilogy after the original and the 3rd movie took place in Hollywood while shooting a movie, Scream 7 could take place in Atlanta during the filming of a miniseries. Many movies/TV shows are filmed in Atlanta now. And guess who works there? KIRBY. Perfect way to bring her back. Could she take Cotton Weary's place… a returning character who helps in the final act of the second movie, is a red herring and then dies in the opening of the third?
It's certainly an interesting theory that Kirby could be brought back similarly to Cotton Weary in Scream 3. Like Cotton Weary in Scream 2, Kirby helped in the final act of her second movie, Scream 6, so killing her in Scream 7 would keep this franchise tradition alive, and immediately create stakes for the movie. When Scream 7's filming begins in Atlanta, Georgia in December 2024, there are bound to be more hints to suggest if the actual movie will take place in this particular location.
