Summary
- Scream 7 embraces classic horror tropes, such as big party settings, along with nostalgic elements like legacy characters meeting a fresh killer
- Fans speculate on using horror trope of babysitter in Scream 7 opening kill sequence, which can add a personal and unnerving touch
- Scream 7 might employ common horror tropes like "let's split up" and jump scares, but perhaps there will be a possible cliffhanger ending in the sequel
Classic horror tropes are present in every Scream movie, from the courageous and smart final girl to the big party where Ghostface is hiding. Slasher films have to stay true to a certain formula or else they risk upsetting audiences who have specific expectations. The most creative filmmakers play with these tropes and have a good time with them. Scream 7 will no doubt include some tropes from this popular genre, along with nostalgic elements such as legacy characters facing a fresh killer and Ghostface wearing the iconic costume.
The opening kill sequence is another key element of the Scream franchise. These are fun and surprising and also set up the events to come. I would love to see Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbel) in the opening, but I also like this fan theory that features a popular horror trope.

This Scream 7 Fan Theory Includes The Babysitter Horror Trope
One Redditor posted in a thread about the opening scene of Scream 7 and suggested that Sidney Prescott should be involved in the opening sequence, although not the character who Ghostface kills. The fan wrote:
"the opening kill should be her and Mark out for dinner at a restaurant, and their babysitter gets the opening kill. It would make the movie a lot more personal."
"The babysitter and the man upstairs" is a classic horror trope/urban legend and I think it's one of the most unnerving. There are countless horror movies about babysitters, from When A Stranger Calls to the dark Christmas film Better Watch Out, and I think it would be fun to see this trope used in Scream 7. Since Ghostface already calls their victims before showing up, it would make sense for them to phone the babysitter and then reveal themselves to be hiding in Sidney's house.
In another Reddit thread, some fans wondered if McKenna Grace's Scream 7 character could be the opening kill and someone thought she might play a babysitter. If Sidney and Mark Evans (Joel McHale) have a young child, it would definitely make sense for Grace to portray this character. As the fan suggested, Sidney and Mark could be enjoying a date night when the new Ghostface comes to their house and targets their children. I think this would be interesting since it would be a lot scarier than most Scream scenes.
Many have pointed out that if Ghostface went after Sidney's babysitter, she would want to find Ghostface more than ever. I agree that Sidney's main goal will be protecting her kids. But, of course, she is also tired of hiding and running and wondering when a new Ghostface is going to pop up. She wants to live her life, and I can't wait to see how Sidney wins against Ghostface this time.
I need more information about Sidney's children's ages before making up my mind about which fan theories make the most sense. However, I think this one works well if Sidney has a younger child who needs a babysitter. It's also possible that one of Sidney's teenagers could babysit for another family in the opening scene and then be killed by Ghostface. While I think Sidney's whole family should survive and personally don't want this to be true, it could happen.
What Other Horror Tropes Could Be In Scream 7?
The Scream franchise has poked fun at horror tropes and every movie provides a meta commentary on the genre. But the movies still feature these tropes since, of course, they're part of the genre, and scary stories don't work without them.
I think that the "let's split up" horror trope could be used in Scream 7. This one might be cheesy and frustrating to watch, but it works well in slasher movies. I'm also hoping for some jump scares in the upcoming sequel. The most exciting jump scares are well-timed and carefully thought out, and I want to see some. I also hope that at least one legacy or new character talks abotu horror movie jump scares and says they know they're getting scared and nervous for nothing. "The end... Or is it?" Horror trope would also be interesting to see in Scream 7. I'm curious about whether the slasher sequel could feature a cliffhanger. This would be brand new territory for the franchise, but I think it would be cool.
No matter what horror tropes are included in Scream 7 and which horror movies are discussed, I'm interested to see where this beloved franchise goes next, and I hope the sequel uses a variety of tropes.
