In the eleven-year gap between the release of Scream 4 and Scream 5, horror fans had plenty of time to wonder if they would ever see the creepy, brutal, and sometimes goofy Ghostface again. Now that Scream 7 will be released on February 26th, 2026, it seems unimaginable that the franchise could have ended with the fourth film. Scream (2022) is a great addition to the slasher franchise. Besides bringing back legacy characters such as Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), the movie features a new mystery along with the horror movie references fans enjoy.

Although slasher fans have been able to watch Scream 5 on Netflix anytime they want, the movie is leaving the streaming platform soon. However, horror audiences can still enjoy this popular movie on another service.

I Think Scream 7 Should Pull Off A Wild Ghostface Trick That Has Never Been Done Before

Scream 7 will have familiar elements from the slasher franchise like final girl Sidney Prescott, but I'd like to see a different Ghostface reveal.

Scream 5 Is Leaving Netflix In April 2025 But Staying On Paramount Plus

According to What's Leaving Netflix, Scream 5 is leaving Netflix on 11th, 2025. However, fans of the popular slasher franchise will be glad to know that Scream 5 can be streamed on Paramount+.

Thanks to Scream's huge fanbase, Scream (2022) was a huge hit. The movie has a 76% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, which is fairly high, along with a 81% on the Popcornmeter. The film grossed $140,041,405 worldwide, which is definitely impressive. Since both Scream (2022) and Scream 6 were hits, Scream 7 was announced in the summer of 2023.

Scream (2022) was not only financially successful, but it told a fascinating and thrilling story about final girl Sidney Prescott's new battle with Ghostface. It also introduced new characters who audiences became invested in. Although Scream 4's Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) is a fan favorite, the others are more typical teenage characters. Scream (2022) featured several complex characters such as Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), who enjoys horror movies, and her brother Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding).

Scream (2022) also did a great job with its big Ghostface reveal. Both Amber Freeman (Mikey Madison) and Richie Kirsch (Jack Quaid) seem innocent throughout most of the story, and it's terrifying to learn about their violent natures.

The fifth movie in the franchise also shocked fans by killing off a legacy character and proving that no one, not even major players, is safe. Fans are still upset about Dewey Riley's (David Arquette) death, and Dewey's Scream 7 return is both exciting and confusing. Although there are a few ways that Dewey can come back, no one is certain what will make sense. In a 2022 interview with Variety, Arquette talked about the end of his character's arc, and also described Dewey's inherent goodness. He said:

"I mean, you can’t take Sidney. Sidney is a survivor. And there was something noble about it for Dewey. He was there to protect Sidney and the people of Woodsboro."

Even though Dewey's Scream (2022) death was hard to accept, it did make an impact, and that was definitely the point.

Scream 5 Started The Next Phase Of The Horror Franchise

Scream (2022) is an important part of the franchise because it proved that brand-new and legacy characters can co-exist in a compelling and clear-cut story. This isn't so easy to do in long-running franchises. While fans like seeing their favorite final girls, villains, and other characters again, they don't always care about the newer faces. But when audiences headed to their local movie theaters to see the fifth movie, they saw the familiar aspects of Scream that they love, like Ghostface and Sidney Prescott, and also got to know the newer characters. Scream (2022) was a creative, risk-taking movie, and it will always be memorable because of it.

Scream (2022) started the next phase of the Scream franchise by proving that several new characters can be part of this world. The movie also introduced the Core Four of Mindy Meeks-Martin, Chad Meeks-Martin, Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega). While only Mindy and Chad are coming back for Scream 7, the movie can still mention these characters and pay homage to them. No matter what happens in Scream 7, Scream (2022) showed how well older and newer characters can work together, and it will be cool to see how that dynamic plays out in the upcoming sequel.
