Starting February 7th, 2026, fans will be able to watch every episode of the hit sitcom Schitt's Creek on HBO Max. This decision was influenced in no small part by the lead actress' passing, but could help the service find the numbers it desperately needs. Although HBO Max once boasted the highest customer satisfaction scores out of any other platform, according to Variety, those days are clearly over.

Before now, the series could be streamed on either Hulu, Disney +, or Amazon Prime, making it one of the most accessible sitcoms of its kind. Yet, this accessibility likely wasn't good for any platform's bottom line, and the rights were sold to Warner Bros. On the surface, this seems like a blatant attempt to capitalize on the loss of one of the world's greatest actresses, and further investigation doesn't look any better for the former media production giant.

Netflix could choose to absorb the platform into itself, like Disney + is doing with Hulu, or they could decide to completely remove the service altogether. Either way, Netflix subscriptions are likely to jump in price once the deal actually goes through. Until that point, fans could enjoy what could be the platform's final days by watching one of the latest sitcoms of the last several decades. If HBO Max is truly going under, then acquiring Schitt's Creek at least proves the platform plans to go out on a high note.

Ultimately, HBO Max will have exclusive streaming rights to the popular sitcom starting first thing February 7th. This is bad news for people who have been enjoying the series on other platforms, but great for people who already have access to the Warner Bros. Associated streaming service. However, this latest acquisition has many fans curious about what will happen to the beloved series' streaming rights if HBO Max is defunded by Netflix.
