Summary
- San Francisco Nintendo Store offers exclusive Switch OLED customization at no additional cost.
- Store also features exclusive merchandise and miniature Nintendo sculptures.
- Customers must reserve a slot in advance due to potential overcrowding at the store opening.
The new San Francisco Nintendo Store is opening soon, and it's bringing a Nintendo Switch OLED customization service that was previously only offered to customers in Japan. The option has previously been made available at Nintendo Store locations in places like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, as well as to Japanese online customers. However, it's been strangely absent from Nintendo New York, which had been the only Nintendo store located in the US.
Nintendo continues to spread its influence beyond the screens of the Nintendo Switch and mobile phones. In addition to the San Francisco Nintendo Store opening on May 15, the entertainment company has also partnered with Universal Studios to open Nintendo-themed parks in both Japan and the United States. It's also seen the release of the extremely successful The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with a sequel and a Legend of Zelda movie both in the works.
These Are the Final Nintendo Switch 2 Specs
A new report confirms the final specifications for Nintendo's new and more powerful Switch 2 console, set to release on June 5.
Nintendo fans on the West Coast are gearing up for the opening of the first US Nintendo Store outside of New York, and now there's an exciting option for Nintendo Switch OLED buyers to look forward to. As initially shown in an IGN video that's since been made unavailable, visitors to the store will be able to customize the Nintendo Switch OLED's controller colors, wrist straps, and even the dock color. Buyers will be able to mix and match the Joy-Con controller colors they like, with options between black and white for the Switch OLED dock. Once a decision is made, the employees at the Nintendo Store will combine the individual pieces and have them ready to bring home the same day that the order is placed. There's reportedly no additional cost for customizing a Nintendo Switch OLED model.
Nintendo San Francisco Store Will Have Unique Merch
In addition to Switch OLED customization, the San Francisco Nintendo Store has also teased exclusive merchandise unique to the individual store's location. This includes miniature versions of the giant Nintendo sculptures that can be found through the store of characters like The Legend of Zelda's Link, Mario himself, and Splatoon's Inkling Girl. However, fans who haven't planned in advance shouldn't get too excited, as the store will initially only be accepting customers who have reserved a slot in advance. The store's opening would otherwise likely face massive crowds and potential problems.
For now, it remains to be seen if any Nintendo Stores will offer similar customization options for Nintendo's newest system when the Nintendo Switch 2 releases. For those who haven't upgraded to an OLED Switch or aren't otherwise planning on waiting for the Switch 2, a trip to the San Francisco Nintendo store may be in order.
