Salt and Sacrifice: Crime Items Guide

Before a player can start exploring the world of Salt and Sacrifice, they must first create a character. This is a multistep process, and one of the things that indie video game fans must determine during it is their character's crime. Each crime in Salt and Sacrifice has an associated item, which players will gain access to upon starting the game, and this guide will provide details on what those items are.

To note, while crime items are similar to keepsakes in Elden Ring and gifts in Dark Souls, the process of picking a crime in Salt and Sacrifice is slightly more complicated. This complication is due to the fact that a character's crime will have some roleplaying implications, though the full extent of them is not currently known, requiring players to think a bit more deeply about their choice.

Brigandry	Cutthroat's Dagger	A charm that increases maximum stamina.
Drunkenness	Cracked Wineskin x5	Can be consumed.
Forgery	Forged Deed	A key item. A forged deed of ownership to a modest parcel of land in Altarstone Kingdom. Whoever purchases this forged deed is in for quite a rude surprise.
Heresy	Krine Tablet	A key item. A tablet of Krine, the judging God. The first and seventh acts of the Seven Heresies are to place one's foot on the tablet, symbolizing that one's actions begin and end according to the will of the individual, not the will of the gods.
Lasciviousness	Lock of Hair	A key item. A lock of hair, bound together as a keepsake.
Smuggling	Signal Lantern	A key item. A brass signal lamp with a sturdy base and reinforced handle. It relies on tiny bursts of flame and concentrated quicklime to illuminate the lens, allowing sailors to communicate from a great distance.
Sumptuousness	Signet Ring	A charm.
Usury	Large Bag of Silver	Grants 1,000 Silver.
Vagrancy	Wooden Doll	A key item. A simple wooden doll.

Salt and Sacrifice: Best Crime

There are a few ways that fans can go about selecting a crime, and all of them are viable. The first approach is to emphasize roleplaying and pick a crime that is aligned with the player's vision for their character. While this may not lead to the most-powerful starting item, it will promote immersion, establishing a suitable backstory for the Marked Inquisitor in Salt and Sacrifice.

If a fan does not have a specific Salt and Sacrifice character in mind, then they may want to simply pick a crime that provides a key item that sounds interesting to them. Indeed, these items are intriguing, as they can be used to perform unique actions throughout the game, and they are granted by the Forgery, Heresy, Lasciviousness, Smuggling, and Vagrancy crimes.

Alternatively, players can put all of their attention on obtaining a starting item with obvious gameplay implications. Arson, Brigandry, and Usury all grant items that could fall into that category, and Souls-like fans that select them will start the game with an advantage. That said, that advantage is not likely to have much of an impact in the long run, and players may be better served by taking one of the other approaches to crime selection.
