Saints Row's content roadmap is getting delayed as Volition instead informs fans that it is working on improvements to the game. With its first title releasing in 2006, the Saints Row series has become an established franchise of exciting open-world action games. Over the span of its first four titles, Saints Row took fans on a journey from being a gang leader to becoming the President of the United States by the time Saints Row 4 rolled around. When fans heard that a new game was on the way, there was an understandable amount of hype.
However, many Saints Row players found themselves somewhat disappointed with the latest game in the series. As a soft reboot of the franchise, the 2022 Saints Row doesn't try to top the adventures of Johnny Gat roaming into hell and instead goes for a gameplay style that better fits the earlier entries. This attempt to return the series to its roots fell flat for many, as the reviews for the new Saints Row game were often mixed, critiquing the game for its unfinished state.
Now, Saints Row developer Volition is looking to improve the game rather than shove out new content for it. Initially, Volition had planned on a roadmap of new Saints Row content, but the developer has had to push these plans back in order to release over "200 bug fixes and stability upgrades." As explained in a new post on the game's website, these fixes will be a part of the Saints Row Autumn Update which drops in late November.
Volition acknowledges that these fixes have taken "longer than expected" and the company apologizes to fans of the game. In the meantime, a new cosmetic pack is being given to players of Saints Row, which includes a hat, boots, and car that face both backwards and forwards at the same time. For anyone used to Saints Row's weirdness, these cosmetics should fit right in. 2023 is when Volition says new information will drop on the story content coming to Saints Row.
It seems a move in the right direction for Volition to acknowledge the missteps of the 2022 Saints Row game. It had been expected that the reception to the new title would be positive, and the CEO of Embracer Group Lars Wingefors was disappointed to see so many fans unhappy with the latest Saints Row. However, Wingefors still expects the game to make money, something that could happen were it to improve its reputation with future patches and fixes.
Saints Row is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
