The history of the Saints Row series is a long and convoluted one. When the first game was released in 2006, most saw it as a mere Grand Theft Auto clone, although many enjoyed its zany humor, open-world freedom, and in-depth character creator. However, as the series progressed, the games, in an attempt to differentiate themselves from Grand Theft Auto, increased the zaniness until Saints Row 4 was released, a game that features superpowers and aliens. With 2022's Saints Row, Volition hopes to reboot the series by taking it back to its more grounded roots without compromising on the outlandish weapons and chaotic fun that fans of the series have grown familiar with.

In the lead-up to the game's release, the developers have released Saints Row Boss Factory, which allows gamers to create playable characters that they can then use in Saints Row when the game releases in a few months. This is a good move, as the character creator is fairly complex, and players can spend countless hours designing different Bosses. Furthermore, the ability to share creations helps to build hype around Saints Row's upcoming release.

Saints Row Boss Factory - Create Your Own Boss

One of the ways Saints Row has differentiated itself from Grand Theft Auto is by allowing gamers to create their own playable character. This tradition returns with 2022's Saints Row, and the developers have greatly expanded the character creator system, which gamers can explore with Saints Row Boss Factory. Players can mold their Boss' face and body to their liking, and thanks to the comprehensive features present, players will never feel like their imagination is limited. Every aspect of the head is customizable, including eye color, facial hair, forehead, wrinkles, and freckles, to name a few. Players can also adjust body size, skin tone, and veins, with options to add body hair, prosthetic limbs, and scars available as well.

Perhaps the most impressive Saints Row Boss Factory customization features lie with the clothing options. There is a wide selection of clothes available, from basic shirts and jeans to 3-piece suits and skimpy lingerie. Players can also accessorize with hats, bracelets, glasses, necklaces, and other forms of jewelry to make their Boss as drab or fabulous as they wish. The clothing selected can be further customized by choosing different materials or by changing its color. The possibilities are limitless, whether players want to go all out or take it all off.

Players can also make minor adjustments to their character's personality by selecting the vocal tone and two emote animations, many of which are quite funny. It is a good idea for anyone interested in Saints Row to jump into Saints Row Boss Factory, as it allows gamers to get a head start on designing the boss they will use when the game comes out. Thanks to the Saint's Row's in-depth character creator system, creating one boss can take a very long time. By getting Boss creation out the way now, players can dive straight into the action when Saints Row launches. As Volition has confirmed, players will be able to easily transfer their creations from Saints Row Boss Factory to Saints Row when the game is released.

In recent times, games with robust character creator systems have been finding fame online thanks to gamers who spend hours painstakingly designing creative and hilarious characters and sharing them on social media. Many designs reference memes, celebrities, gaming icons, and pop culture figures, as seen with many of the characters that have been created in Elden Ring. Since the game's release, players have been sharing their Elden Ring creations, allowing the game to find even greater popularity.

Saints Row Boss Factory helps Saints Row to get a little free publicity through its sharing system. After creating a Boss or two, players can share their creations online where other players can see and download what others have made. Players who import a Boss unlock a special bonus which includes two helmets that can be used when Saints Row is released. The designs already shared are amazing, and include a pretty impressive rendition of John Wick.

When Saints Row launches, customization will not be limited to Bosses, however, and players will also be able to add personalized touches to their weapons and their vehicles. It seems that while Saints Row will be returning to its roots by focusing on the connections between a tight-knit gang, it will still let players unleash their imagination wherever possible.

Saints Row - A Blend of New and Old

The reboot of Saints Row takes place in the fictional American city of Saint Ileso, which is controlled by three gangs - Los Panteros, the Idols, and Marshall Defense Industries. Gamers, playing as Boss, form a new gang with the aim of seizing the city and overcoming all who stand in their way. Players will spend time with Eli the entrepreneurial mastermind of the Saints Row gang, Kevin who was a member of the Idols but now handles heists for Saints Row, and Neenah who is the driver for the gang. Trailers released have shown that the bond between the members of the gang will be an important part of the game, but gamers will still be able to indulge in wacky open-world fun thanks to the fast cars and big weapons that will be available.

Naturally, some gamers are still skeptical about the upcoming reboot and whether it will be able to please gamers who expect unbridled chaos and gamers who are looking for a more down-to-earth experience. With Saints Row Boss Factory, fans can get their first taste of what Volition is brewing to see if they believe the studio is moving the franchise in the right direction.

Saints Row is scheduled to release on 23 August 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
