Rather than show off its upcoming titles at major gaming events, Nintendo prefers to host its own presentations to share what gamers can expect from its releases in the coming months. Lately, big Nintendo games such as Splatoon 3 have been given their own Nintendo Direct showcase, solely focusing on the gameplay, story, and other features players will experience in the lead up to release. Now, it seems a new Nintendo Direct could be on the way, with the upcoming presentation reportedly focusing on two Legend of Zelda games.
This news comes from well-known industry insider Jeff Grubb. Speaking on his Last of the Nintendogs podcast, at 17:03 Grubb mentioned that a new Nintendo Direct was expected for the week beginning on September 12, and prior to that, his co-host Mike Minotti stated that announcements of Wind Waker and Twighlight Princess HD remakes were expected. Regarding the exact date these Legend of Zelda reveals will take place, Grubb said that the week of the 12th isn't fully confirmed and Nintendo could push the presentation up to happen as soon as next week.
Grubb still believes that the week of the 12th is more likely, as this would give Nintendo time to do the Direct before Tokyo Game Show begins on September 15. Either way, very soon some iconic Zelda games could be announced to be getting Switch ports. While the HD Switch port usually doesn't equate to a remaster of a game, for many fans who still appreciate Wind Waker and Twilight Princess as unique entries in The Legend of Zelda franchise, it will be exciting to see those older titles get some attention.
At 11:20 in the video, Minotti states that he is "very, very sure" that the Wind Waker and Twighlight Princess HD ports would be getting announced at this upcoming Nintendo Direct, but Grubb had some other ideas of what will feature at the show. In terms of other Legend of Zelda games, Grubb stated that he would enjoy Nintendo using the engine for the Link's Awakening remake to recreate another 2D Zelda title. However, this was not something that he believed would be at the presentation, meaning that fans shouldn't get their hopes up about seeing anything like that at the presentation, especially with Breath of the Wild 2 on the way.
With Nintendo's big releases for 2022 already set up for launch, both Grubb and Minotti agreed that this upcoming Nintendo Direct will likely show fans what the company has in mind for its future. According to Grubb, this could feature anything from a new Mario title to even a Metroid Prime remaster. Even if none of those franchises are featured, it is expected that should this Direct take place, it will have a strong Legend of Zelda focus.
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is available on GameCube and Wii U. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is available on GameCube, Wii, and Wii U.
