Summary

  • Marvel Studios may cast Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider in Avengers: Doomsday, aiming for his star power and proven acting quality.
  • Ghost Rider is a character Marvel wants to introduce in the multiverse in Avengers: Doomsday, potentially shaking up the franchise.
  • The change in darker tones in recent Marvel productions makes now an ideal time to introduce Ghost Rider with possible R-rated content.

Avengers: Doomsday already features many of Marvel's biggest stars, which is why fans were so disappointed by Marvel's recent decision to delay its release. However, with the multiverse wide open in this movie, there's always going to be the possibility of more characters making an appearance that Marvel hasn't already announced.

One that has been heavily rumored is Ghost Rider, a popular Marvel character who is also completely unlike anyone else in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nicolas Cage has taken on the role in the past, but now Marvel Studios is looking at another star actor to portray the character in Avengers: Doomsday.

New Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy
Marvel Can't Make The Same Mistake With The New Avengers That It Did With The Guardians of the Galaxy In Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel needs to avoid repeating the mistakes made with Guardians of the Galaxy when it comes to the New Avengers.

According to industry insider MyTimeToShineHello, Marvel Studios is eyeing Ryan Gosling to play Ghost Rider. The Barbie and LaLa Land star is someone who Kevin Feige would like to take on the role as he is keen to cast a big name to take on this part. Securing Gosling would be a huge deal due to his proven quality as an actor, but it would also get a lot of interest as the three-time Oscar nominee is popular.

Gosling has recently been cast as the lead actor in Star Wars: Starfighter, so his name value and general star power will only increase moving forward. Interestingly, Gosling has publicly admitted wanting to play Ghost Rider. This is a positive sign for Marvel Studios should they attempt to cast him in the role, as the interest already exists within him. However, given the fact that Avengers: Doomsday has already begun shooting, there's no guarantee that Marvel and Gosling will be able to work things out regarding their schedules to make this work, with this very much just being a rumor at this stage.

Ghost Rider is a character that Marvel Studios reportedly has big plans for, and they have been working on introducing him for some time. Avengers: Doomsday is the movie being earmarked for that introduction to take place. Whether that will see him appear via the multiverse or just as part of the current timeline remains to be seen, but Marvel Studios wants Ghost Rider to be part of the franchise moving forward. Adding him into the franchise would prove to be a popular decision among fans, and throwing him into Avengers: Doomsday would seriously shake things up from what people have been expecting. However, there is no word on how big of a role he would have in Avengers: Doomsday, as it could end up being a brief cameo with bigger plans.

Now would be an ideal time to introduce Ghost Rider, given the recent change in darker tones that Marvel has been producing lately. The franchise hasn't hidden from R-rated content, with Deadpool & Wolverine and Daredevil: Born Again pushing the boundaries and has been met with great success. Ghost Rider is a character that fits into that type of world perfectly, which means any future plans for the character would be able to go down that path. However, when it comes to Avengers: Doomsday, simply introducing Ghost Rider would please people, especially if Gosling is taking on the role.
