Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated to commence shooting in July ahead of its July 31, 2026 release date, and casting for the movie is still ongoing. Marvel Studios has already hired Stranger Things star Sadie Sink for the fourth Spider-Man film of the franchise, and they are believed to now be looking for a female actress to portray the villain who will be going up against Peter Parker.
The specific character that Marvel Studios is looking to bring into Spider-Man: Brand New Day is unknown, but having a female villain will provide something fresh for Tom Holland's character to work against. While nobody has been officially cast in the role until now, Marvel is moving closer to securing someone for the role.
Marvel Must Be Careful Not To Tease Something That Can’t Be Delivered With Spider-Man
Marvel is taking a risk wth its recent Spider-Man teasers, as they might not be able to deliver.
According to industry insider MyTimeToShineHello, Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman is being considered to take on the role of a female villain in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It's unknown whether any official talks have taken place, but her casting would be a popular decision with many fans due to her talent as an actress. While she's best known for being in dramatic roles, Kidman does have experience in the superhero world, as she previously appeared in Aquaman and Batman Forever.
The web-slinger doesn't have a long list of female enemies from the comics, which means Marvel's options for who Kidman will play are few and far between. The likes of Black Cat, Calypso, and Shriek are all possible options for this movie, but Marvel could opt to go left field with its decision. Many villains from the Spider-Man world could have their genders swapped to allow a female to take on the role, or they could pull a villain from outside of Spider-Man's comics in a bid to provide a female foe for this movie.
There has been no shortage of cast news when it comes to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which falls in line with the belief that Marvel is taking the character in a new direction within this movie. Zendaya's MJ and Jacob Batalon's Ned are both expected to return for this movie, but they will have their roles restricted to minor ones in comparison to what they have done before within the Spider-Man franchise. On top of that, it is believed that Mark Ruffalo will appear as Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, adding another major Marvel hero to the movie for Holland to play off.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is going to be an important movie in the current slate of the MCU, given Marvel's decision to delay Avengers: Doomsday. This will now be the next movie following The Fantastic Four: First Steps, placing extra pressure on the movie to deliver and keep the excitement building toward the two upcoming major Avengers films. Seeing Peter Parker go up against a female antagonist will provide something fresh, giving the movie a strong chance of succeeding, all while being unique in comparison to the previous Spider-Man movies. However, whether or not Kidman takes the role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day will remain to be seen.
