Summary
- Citlali in Genshin Impact is a Cryo Catalyst with a shield support role, generating Cryo with her off-field Elemental Burst.
- Unlike Layla, Citlali can use unique Catalyst user advantages and the new Artifact Set in Version 5.0.
- Expected to debut in Version 5.3, Citlali will belong to the Mictlan Tribe of Natlan and be testable in a beta in late November 2024.
According to a reliable source in the Genshin Impact community, the upcoming 4-Star Cryo Catalyst, Citlali, will have an ability kit eerily reminiscent of Layla. Though the elements in Genshin Impact are designed with synergy and balance in mind, it is a widely accepted reality that not all playstyles are equally supported. Perhaps the most famous example is Eula in Genshin Impact, a 5-Star Cryo Claymore character with a focus on physical damage. As opposed to elemental reactions, or even mono-Geo teams, physical damage simply lacks the necessary support to rival the current meta.
While most physical characters are Cryo, due to how Superconduct is triggered, Cryo characters in Genshin Impact as a whole have seen a fall out of favor since the rise of Hyperbloom teams in Sumeru. For many Cryo fans, Wriothesley was a breath of fresh air – both for being the first Cryo Catalyst, and for providing a crisp rotation which utilized Fontaine's hit point fluctuation mechanic. Charlotte soon followed in Version 4.2, the second Cryo Catalyst in Genshin Impact, providing instead the role of a dedicated healer for Furina. With Xilonen promising to lift Geo onto a new tier in the Natlan era, one can't help but wonder what Citlali will bring to the table for Cryo.
Genshin Impact Leaks Banner Characters for Version 5.1
A recent Genshin Impact leak outlines the 5-Star characters that will be accompanying Xilonen in Version 5.1, including some unexpected surprises.
FouL claims that Citlali will play the role of a Shield Support, with an Elemental Burst capable of applying Cryo when off-field. The elemental shield would be generated via the use of her Elemental Skill, which makes the comparison with Layla rather obvious. Given how rare a 5-Star Shield Support is in Genshin Impact, her rarity as a 4-Star character is all but confirmed.
What Citlali Brings to the Table in Genshin Impact
While her ability kit seems to fill a similar niche to Layla, there are two advantages that strongly favor Citlali. Unlike Layla, Citlali is both a Catalyst user and a Natlan character. The former enables her to use Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers, while the latter unlocks the use of the new Artifact Set introduced in Genshin Impact for Version 5.0.
Citlali is expected to debut in Version 5.3, likely during the same Event Banner as Mavuika in Genshin Impact. As such, players will only be able to preview Citlali's ability kit in full detail once beta testing commences in late November 2024. She is a member of the Mictlan Tribe of Natlan, better known as the Masters of the Night Wind, who will feature prominently in the next map expansion.
