Greta Gerwig's upcoming Chronicles of Narnia project for Netflix is building a steady amount of interest due to the huge news that keeps dropping about it. Gerwig is expected to reboot the franchise and showcase it in more detail than ever before, with eight Chronicles of Narnia movies reportedly planned. The first of which is going to have a limited IMAX release as well, before the movie begins streaming on Netflix for people to watch at their convenience.

The first installment will be released on Thanksgiving Day in 2026, and given that it isn't too far away, it's not a surprise that casting news is starting to become known. Gerwig has often worked with talented casts, and the current signs are pointing to that trend continuing with her Chronicles of Narnia movies as she looks to put together the best of the best to tell these classic C.S. Lewis stories in a brand new way.

Netflix's Narnia Could Be Too Outside The Box For Its Own Good

The upcoming Narnia movie on Netflix could end up being too unique for it to succeed.

According to What's On Netflix, Daniel Craig is being eyed as someone Netflix wants to cast for the upcoming Chronicles of Naria movie. Craig is being offered a key role in the film as Uncle Andrew Ketterley in what is expected to be an adaptation of The Magician's Nephew. The role of Andrew is essential as one of the main antagonists of the story, as he is Digory Kirke's uncle and someone whose moral values don't always align with what's expected. He is a magician and tricks Digory's friend into another world, while a different trick he pulls leads to the villainous Wicked Witch entering London.

Details about Gerwig's project are being kept very much under wraps at the moment, but the film is being tentatively named Narnia: The Magician's Nephew. However, casting for this movie is well underway now, with popular musician Charlie XCX being lined up to join the cast as well, having been rumored to take on the role of the White Witch.

Craig is best known to most people as James Bond, having portrayed the iconic spy in five movies, often being touted as one of the greatest 007s in the franchise's history. However, he does have a working relationship with Netflix, as he has played the character Benoit Blanc in the Knives Out murder mystery franchise. He is the lead actor for that world, having starred in two movies already, with a third installment, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, set to be released in Fall 2025. Blanc is a rather eccentric character in his own right, and that is something that he could lean into when bringing Andrew Ketterley to life.

Adding someone as talented as Craig to the Chronicles of Narnia project would be a positive move for Netflix, as he's a tremendous actor. Craig is also someone with genuine star power as a leading man who has a commanding presence that draws people in. Placing him in advertisements and on posters would certainly be beneficial to Netflix's marketing campaign. His potential casting also gives people an idea about the caliber of actors Netflix is seeking for Gerwig's Chronicles of Narnia franchise, and if this is the standard, then it could turn into something very special.
