Daisy Ridley is reprising her role as Rey in a new Star Wars movie. However, there are claims that the script is reportedly not yet done and the project is currently "on hold."
Ridley made her debut in the Star Wars franchise in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, playing Rey, an abandoned child and scavenger who l ives on planet Jakku. The Force Awakens is Episode VII of the Star Wars saga. She reprised the role in two more movies, Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Her character played an essential figure in the trilogy, which documented her transformation into a Jedi and the crisis she faced when she learned that she was the granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine, a human Dark Lord of the Sith. Rey helped The Resistance defeat the First Order. However, some find her character irritating for some reason and the upcoming movie could redeem Rey, but it's reportedly put off.
Movie insider @DanielRPK claims that Ridley's upcoming film The New Jedi Order is "on hold" because the story is not yet done and "needs more work," Star Wars Holocron shared on X, formerly Twitter. The production could start next year. However, some are doubtful that it will see the light of day. Jordan Ruimy, editor-in-chief at Wold of Reel and Tomatometer-approved critic, previously said there was "no chance" Ridley's new movie would start filming in September. With the recent report, he was doubtful if the film would materialize. "I think the entire project will just get scrapped," he wrote.
Ridley's return to the franchise was confirmed by film director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The filmmaker spoke about the project when she appeared on Star SiriusXM 109 in June and shared that they would take Rey on an "adventure to a Jedi Academy." She also gave an overview of their plans for Ridley's Rey. "I think the team is really taking time to make sure that we do justice to telling the story of Daisy," Obaid-Chinoy added. "We've seen this wonderful journey she went on in Episode VII, VIII, and IX and now it's on to the next adventure. How do we create a world and that adventure that we take her on?"
Apparently, there's a big plan for Ridley's character in the next Star Wars movie. It's understandable why some fans are worried about its future and others are convinced it will eventually be axed after claims it's being "on hold." However, one should also note that Lucasfilm has not announced an official release date yet, so it's difficult to say the project is delayed, much more canceled. One thing is for sure: the project is confirmed, so fans could still hope for Ridley's next Star Wars movie.
Ridley's return to the franchise opens a lot of possibilities for Rey after being established as the last Jedi. Fans are looking forward to what happens to her next, including how she will rebuild the Jedi Order and how her leadership will be as the new Jedi Master. A new Star Wars movie about Rey is definitely something to watch out for.
