A new rumor has just dropped out of the sky and into the Call of Duty world. According to a report and speculation, this year's Call of Duty may be the remastered multiplayer from Modern Warfare 2 and not Sledgehammer Games' WW2 Vanguard.
Fans are patiently waiting for official news from Activision on Call of Duty 2021. In the meantime, plenty of rumors have apparently leaked out. If true, this most recent piece of intel would be a bombshell. It could be that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered will be the main game for the fall this year, instead of whatever Sledgehammer is cooking up.
According to WarzoneNewz on Twitter, Activision recently sent a DCMA claim against someone for posting something about Sledgehammer's Call of Duty 2021 (reportedly called WW2 Vanguard) being delayed. Because of this delay, the multiplayer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remastered will reportedly be replacing it.
What is interesting about this rumor is that Sledgehammer Games has had development issues in the past with Call of Duty. Treyarch had to step in and speed up the development of its own Call of Duty game because Sledgehammer dropped the ball, according to reports. If this were to happen again, that would be a very bad look.
Call of Duty has arrived at almost a sports-like level of drama, insider leaks, and rumor mill speculation. In the sports world, whether it be players signing or trading with new teams, off-the-field drama, or whatever the case may be, the rumors and drama are near endless. Call of Duty feels like it is there as well. It is very hard to decipher between all of the leaks and rumors for Call of Duty over the past couple of years. The "insiders" appear to throw so much at fans that eventually some of it will stick, but no one can keep track of all of the incorrect reports either.
As such, it's important to reiterate the need to take it all with a massive grain of salt. A lot of the time, it is the constant whispers that add up to those leaks gaining traction. In the case of Call of Duty: Warzone, there were rumors of a Call of Duty battle royale for several months before the game launched, and the reports of the map being nuked in the game were constant as well. But some other "leaks" about new maps appear to have been a bit off base. So when it comes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, wait for more additional rumors and leaks to give this news some more credence, but of course, wait for the official news from the developers and publishers themselves to make it official.
Call of Duty 2021 is currently in development.
