Activision and Infinity Ward have managed to breathe a bit more life into the Call of Duty franchise thanks to the extremely popular Warzone Battle Royale mode. Already, this free to play experience has managed to pull in a staggering 30 million players with plenty of new updates on the way to try and keep as many of them around as possible. While the Battle Royale rumors have finall subsided, they've seemingly been replaced by new speculation swirling around a possible reappearance of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

As the amount of leaks continue to pile up, this is quickly turning into a situation of where there's smoke, there's fire. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered has been rumored for a very long time, but fans may finally be getting answers. According to Okami13_ on Twitter, someone who has previously gotten a hold of pre-release details for Call of Duty titles, Activision is planning a reveal for Modern Warfare 2 Remastered later this month on March 30.

Infinity Ward has given current Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players a taste of Modern Warfare 2 by adding maps like Rust and Crash as well as the character Ghost to its online modes. There's also a handful of Easter Eggs in the game through weapon charms. Jumper cables reference a particular scene from the Takedown mission, a gasoline canister is a nod to the twist that happens in the mission Loose Ends, while the final charm appears to be a revolver that's reminiscent of what General Shepherd carried.

Obviously, fans should take this with a grain of salt until Activision officially confirms or denies it, but there's a lot of mounting evidence to the game actually existing. In fact, just a few days ago, a new rating popped up in South Korea for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign. While some continue to speculate that the multiplayer portion will come later, it's possible that Activision doesn't want to cannibalize the other active Call of Duty games and their player base.

Whatever the case may be, Activision definitely has plans for more Call of Duty this year. Outside of its traditional yearly release cycle, leakers have indicated that the mega publisher has multiple Call of Duty related projects in active development. The mainline 2020 release is currently codenamed Zeus, a free-to-play title from Sledgehammer Games due out next year, Infinity Ward's next Call of Duty game, and the previously mentioned Modern Warfare 2 Remastered. For fans of this franchise, there appears to be plenty to be excited about.
