The Rocky franchise has created some of the most iconic characters in Hollywood, one being Talia Shire's Adrian. With Creed 3 set to arrive in theatres later this year and the possibility of future Creed stories to follow, Shire has an idea for how the sequel/reboot films could bring her character back.
It was back in 1976 when fans first saw Shire's Adrian on the big screen alongside Sylvester Stallone's Rocky. From then on, the actress would reprise the acclaimed role in four more Rocky films while also being referred to off-screen in 2006's Rocky Balboa and in MGM's newly successful Creed additions (where Rocky eventually runs the restaurant that is named after her).
Shire, who appeared on the red carpet for the re-release of The Godfather, spoke with CinemaBlend about the possibility of showing up in future Creed films and how that may look. "I love the collaborations that I've had with Sylvester because I love him," Shire said before sharing her idea. "I think I should be in a dream sequence. Rocky can carry me around as his bride. Remember that? Have you noticed I’m a bride in all of these movies?"
While it would most definitely be exciting to see Shire return in this role, a dream sequence may feel a little too out of place or cliché, especially since the Creed films are abandoning much of the cartoonish, over the top plot as seen in films like Rocky 4, instead striving to tell a much more grounded, grittier story filled with mature themes involving legacy and past trauma. And with Stallone confirmed to not be returning for Creed 3, there's no telling if he would even return for future Creed sequels, let alone if there will even be more films at all after this upcoming third chapter.
Until the announcement of more Creed films surfaces online, the focus is now on Creed 3, a film that will see Michael B. Jordan return to the titular role as well as make his directorial debut. Following in the footsteps of talented filmmakers like Steven Caple Jr. And Ryan Coogler, Jordan and the rest of the team look to build on the success of Creed 3's two predecessors and present a worthy addition in the Creed series.
This time around, it's The Harder They Fall and Ant-Man 3 star Jonathan Majors who will play Adonis Creed's adversary, and the actor has already hinted at the more personal story the upcoming film is striving to tell. The boxing drama will also see Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad reprise their roles as Bianca Taylor and Mary Anne Creed, while Coogler and his brother Keenan are working on the story and screenplay. The film continues its production in Atlanta after beginning this past January.
Creed 3 will arrive in theaters on November 23, 2022.
