Summary
- The Rockstar Games website has undergone a notable redesign, potentially in preparation for the GTA 6 reveal in December, which will kick off the upcoming game's marketing campaign.
- The 2011 GTA 5 reveal was preceded by a countdown on Rockstar's website, which could be the case this time around, as well.
- The Rockstar Social Club website was also treated to a small update that revealed the platform now boasts over 200 million users.
The Rockstar Games website has been treated to a notable redesign whose timing suggests the move is connected to the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 reveal. While this isn't the first occasion on which a Rockstar website sparked GTA 6 rumors, that sort of speculation seems more rooted in reality this time around.
That's primarily because Rockstar recently confirmed that the first GTA 6 trailer is coming in early December. In other words, the much-anticipated game's marketing campaign is finally set to kick off in a matter of weeks.
GTA 6 Will Be Unaffected by Actor Strike, Take-Two Says
Take-Two explains why Grand Theft Auto 6 will be unaffected by the SAG-AFTRA actor strike, thus also hinting at the current state of the game.
The subsequent update to the Rockstar Games websites is hence being widely interpreted as part of the company's preparations for the GTA 6 reveal. The redesign, first spotted by GTA leaker Tez2, introduces Rockstar Social Club integration and a new permanent menu to the studio's official website, among other changes. The old hamburger menu icon was replaced with a black-and-white Rockstar logo that still serves a similar function, as clicking it will trigger a dropdown list that allows users to navigate between the homepage, Rockstar's games catalog, and the company's news service.
To the right of that icon is a new permanent menu containing alternative Games and Newswire links, as well as those directing users to the Videos and Downloads sections of the site. Speaking of downloads, the redesign added a sizable button prompting users to install the Rockstar Games Launcher to the upper-right corner of every page on the site. The links to Rockstar's online storefront and support pages are now also more prominently featured on the site, and can be found under the More dropdown list in the main menu.
GTA 6 Reveal Trailer Might Be Preceded by a Countdown on Rockstar's Website, Similar to GTA 5
In terms of functionality, the biggest change arrived in the form of an improved search feature allowing visitors to filter their queries by categories, including games, posts, videos, and usernames. Since the 2011 GTA 5 reveal was preceded by a countdown on Rockstar's website, it's possible that the company has something similar in store for its sequel's unveiling. After all, announcing the GTA 6 trailer's release date in advance would ostensibly maximize its day-one viewership. Either way, it's plausible that Rockstar timed this redesign to make the most of the traffic boost that its website is bound to enjoy as a result of the upcoming trailer.
Rockstar Social Club Website Was Also Updated With a New User Count
At the same time, the company also updated the Rockstar Social Club homepage by changing its user count from more than 100 million to "over 200 million." The new figure, also spotted by Tez2, can only be seen by logging out of the site. The number itself is unsurprisingly close to the volume of lifetime GTA 5 sales; according to Take-Two Interactive's latest financial report, GTA 5 hit 190 million in sales by the end of September.
