- Alongside GTA and TES, Rockstar and Bethesda have other popular franchises like Red Dead Redemption and Fallout demanding attention.
The video game industry is bigger than it's ever been, and the number of developers in the Western world alone is only continuing to rise with each passing year. While many of these developers will inevitably fly under the radar, there are a handful of developers that have become household names, and Rockstar and Bethesda are two of the biggest.
With decades' worth of video game experience now under their belts, Rockstar and Bethesda have become two of the largest video game developers in the entire world, and though their track records haven't been flawless, every game they've delivered over the last decade or so has garnered an unprecedented amount of interest from the general gaming public. And now, standing on the precipice of greatness once more, Rockstar and Bethesda find themselves in the same boat as one another.
How GTA 6 and TES 6 Are In The Same Boat
Grand Theft Auto 6 and Elder Scrolls 6 Are Two of The Most Anticipated Games of All Time
Rockstar and Bethesda are currently working on two of the most anticipated video games of all time. As the first entry in over a decade, the hype train for Grand Theft Auto 6 has been gradually picking up speed for the best part of 10 years, with rumors surrounding the game's development appearing repeatedly pretty much since GTA 5 came out back in 2013.
Now, with an official trailer out and a general release window of 2025 confirmed, the hype surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 has reached an all-time high. Unfortunately, this is a bar that's only going to get progressively higher the closer fans get to the game's eventual release.
Bethesda finds itself in a very similar position, albeit with some sizable caveats. Announced back in June 2018, Bethesda has been slowly working on The Elder Scrolls 6 for quite some time now. While even Bethesda regrets its decision to announce the sequel so flippantly, with a short CG teaser being the only thing shown in the last six years, The Elder Scrolls 6 is still one of the most anticipated games in development right now, with the franchise's excellent legacy keeping fans engaged and hopeful.
Being responsible for two of the most anticipated video games of all time, Rockstar and Bethesda are under an immense amount of pressure right now. Grand Theft Auto 5 and its online component have managed to not only stay relevant for the last decade, but stay at the very forefront of the gaming industry, with 147,458 players currently online at the time of writing, according to Steam Charts, putting it above Rainbow Six Siege, Rust, and even Call of Duty right now.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be even more relevant and revolutionary, and the same is expected for The Elder Scrolls 6 after the legacy of its predecessors.
Rockstar and Bethesda Have Other Franchises Demanding Attention
Grand Theft Auto 6 and The Elder Scrolls 6 aren't the only high-profile franchises that demand Rockstar and Bethesda's attention. Red Dead Redemption and Fallout are both extremely popular series and official confirmations of either series getting another sequel have never really been given aside from a few Fallout 5 comments from Todd Howard in June 2022 and late last year. So while Rockstar and Bethesda have to deal with the immense pressure of creating Grand Theft Auto 6 and Elder Scrolls 6, they also have to deal with an underlying pressure that they'll soon have to create sequels for their other beloved franchises.
