The recently released RoboCop: Rogue City has only been out for a few weeks, but it’s already a major financial success for publisher Nacon. Old Detroit’s ultimate law enforcer has appeared in numerous video games over the past 36 years, from the side-scrolling and platforming of the first two RoboCop game adaptations to the groundbreaking polygon graphics of RoboCop 3. RoboCop even reported for duty as a guest fighter in Mortal Kombat 11, squaring off against fellow 80s action heroes like the T-800 Terminator and John Rambo.

RoboCop would return once again in RoboCop: Rogue City, an FPS that puts players behind the visor of rebuilt police officer Alex Murphy as he patrols the mean streets of Old Detroit. Rogue City’s plot takes place between the second and third RoboCop movies, with original actor Peter Weller reprising his role as the one-man army coated in a near-bulletproof metal skin and armed with numerous high-powered guns that can be used to take down criminals. Players can choose between a peaceful or aggressive approach to Rogue City’s main storyline, and there are several sidequests they can embark on while patrolling the game’s gritty, cyberpunk environment.

Nacon Connect Event Announced for Next Month With RoboCop and Gollum

Nacon announces the date for Nacon Connect 2023, where it promises to give players exclusive updates on upcoming titles such as Gollum and Robocop.

RoboCop: Rogue City may have gotten a lukewarm reception from critics when it launched earlier this month, but publisher Nacon is considering it an overwhelming success. As reported by Push Sqaure, the game has managed to gain roughly 435,000 players in the span of two weeks, though exact sales figures remain unknown. Nacon CEO Alain Falc seems pleased with the news, though, and thanked both developer Teyon for its hard work in making Rogue City and RoboCop owner MGM for granting his company access to the license.

RoboCop: Rogue City

Sure enough, players have praised RoboCop: Rogue City for recreating the gritty and satirical tone of the classic RoboCop movies, with many holding it up as a shining example of both a nostalgic licensed title done right and the midway point between a smaller indie title and a massive AAA blockbuster. Developer Teyon has developed something of a reputation when it comes to smaller games based on retro properties, as its 2019 FPS/RPG hybrid Terminator: Resistance is viewed by many as an underrated gem – to the point where a significant portion of Terminator fans consider it canon to the films.

It seems that history is repeating itself with RoboCop: Rogue City, as Teyon’s latest licensed title has already built up a large player base after only being out for a couple of weeks. So far, the game is publisher Nacon’s biggest launch to date, though only time will tell if this success continues into the holiday season and beyond.
