Roblox players aren't happy, and they're making their complaints known to Vladimir Putin. Some Roblox players have found themselves no longer able to play their favorite game, and they're making their opinion clear.

Roblox is popular all over the world, with an average of over 100 million gamers playing Roblox on any given day. Roblox's platform is unique in that it's not simply a single game, but serves as a platform that hosts all kinds of titles, including many built by players themselves. However, given the number of children who flock to the game regularly, there have also been numerous concerns raised regarding the safety of underaged users in Roblox.

Children in Russia Aren't Happy About Roblox Ban

Now, word has come from Russian government officials revealing that children are extremely upset about the fact that Roblox has been banned in Russia. The ban landed on December 3, and just a week later, two members of the Russian administration acknowledged that children had been sending numerous complaints in to the Kremlin about the Roblox ban. Russia Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that the Kremlin had received "many letters" from kids about the ban, but the real stunner came from Pro-Kremlin censorship advocate and member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation Yekaterina Mizulina, who stated that she had received 63,000 emails from children between the ages of eight and sixteen complaining about the ban.

In addition to the tens of thousands of emails, Mizulina noted that the children from about half of the emails received said they wanted to leave Russia because of the ban. Though it's far from the only online service or platform that's been banned in the country, it seems that kids aren't taking this new addition well. Prior to the ban, Roblox had been one of the most frequently downloaded games in the country, and back in 2022, Roblox Corporation stated that 2 million players from Russia were active in the game, which has likely increased considerably since.

Why is Roblox Banned in Russia?

The game has been banned in Russia largely due to concerns over content present in Roblox. Russian media regulators have claimed that Roblox contains content that's inappropriate for kids which would "impact their spiritual and moral development." Specifically, the platform was banned due to concerns over "terrorism-related content" and LGBT content, which are considered extremist in Russia and banned accordingly. The officials allege that games and scenarios involving terrorist activity, gambling, and sexual harassment have been part of the platform, and it took action accordingly.

Roblox has already stated that it intends to change some of its features in Russia in an effort to have the ban reversed. In response to the events of the Russo-Ukrainian war in 2022, numerous games and digital platforms stopped operating in Russia, including Pokemon GO, Nintendo eShop sales, World of Tanks, and more. However, Roblox remained available in the country, and may have seen a further increase in popularity due in part to diminished competition from other games in the country.

Roblox Shares Staggering Daily Active User Count

While Russia's ban on Roblox might seem extreme, it's far from the first time that Roblox has gotten in hot water with governments, parents, and others. Concerns have consistently arisen regarding the safety of kids on the platform, which has led Roblox to implement steps like checking users' identities with selfie videos to determine their age and decide who they should be allowed to chat with on the service. Earlier in 2025, the Florida Attorney General issued a subpoena to Roblox over child safety concerns, and YouTuber Schlep faced a ban after releasing videos identifying alleged predators on the platform. Roblox was also banned in Turkey back in 2024.

At the moment, it seems that Roblox is open to cooperating with the Russian government in order to get unbanned. Whether it's successful, and what ways the game may end up changing in order to suit any requirements on Russia's part remain to be seen.
