Roblox has changed its badge system, doing away with system badges and introducing a substitute. So far, Roblox fans seem to be having mixed reactions to the alterations, with some liking the replacement for system badges, while others want their traditional badges back.

Roblox has made a number of changes in recent history, with some going over better with the playerbase than others. One recent alteration that led to some controversy was changes made to Roblox heads, with the potential for some static heads to be removed from players' inventories entirely if the original creators don't update them to dynamic in time. Unfortunately, this new change to profile badges is one more thing that some players aren't particularly happy about.

Roblox Players Say AI Age Checks Are Killing Chat and Erasing Memories

Roblox’s new AI age checks are silencing chat, erasing years of messages and leaving players frustrated as servers grow quieter.

Roblox Removes System Badges, But They're Not Completely Erased

Players are now noticing that Roblox seems to have gone through with the change to system badges it promised last year, as Roblox system badges are no longer displayed on user profiles. Previously, Roblox devs explained that since a number of system badges can no longer be earned and don't line up with "the ways users and creators express themselves today," the legacy system would be gotten rid of. However, developer, verification, and administrator badges will still remain. With that said, while the system badges are no longer displayed on a user's profile, avatar pin accessories with the same icon as the original badges have been implemented in their place. Roblox users will be able to wear their system badges on their Roblox player avatar as front accessories, which are visible to everyone around them. Roblox says that over 1 billion items have been awarded in the conversion process.

Reception to the change has been mixed in the community. Initially, numerous players were upset by the announced change, and Roblox softened the blow by allowing players to keep their badges in accessory form, which satisfied some fans. Some have also said that they prefer the pins, as they can show off the badge that they like the most, rather than having them stashed away in their profiles. However, a number of fans have also shared their thoughts that they're still not happy with the change, as it marks the removal of a feature that's been around in Roblox for nearly 20 years. Several have suggested that they would have preferred to have had both options, with the badges visible in their profile and the ability to wear them as Roblox accessories.

Roblox Keeps Changing, To Some Fans' Chagrin

Change is inevitable, especially in a game as old as Roblox, but that hasn't eased the frustrations of players. Aside from heads and badges, some Roblox players have objected to age verification requirements in the game. In order to fully access chat, players have to share a selfie or proof of identification to prove their age. Even then, chat is now restricted based on age range, preventing players from speaking to anyone outside their designated groups. This is being done in an effort to protect children and ensure safety on the platform, and it's not the only online service to recently do so. Discord has also seen backlash following a requirement to upload proof of one's age or have their account marked as a "teen" account, with restrictions in place on what servers they can access and what content they can view.

Although this change is still upsetting some fans, it could be worse. Roblox was recently banned entirely in Egypt, so some players aren't able to play it at all. Players in countries where the game has been banned have been left with few options other than to wait for Roblox Corporation to try and work out the issue with the associated governments. It's not out of the question for players in banned countries to regain access to the game eventually, as Roblox was able to make concessions to allow it to be played again in Jordan, but nothing is set in stone.
