Two sisters were allegedly kidnapped by a man they met on Roblox. The online gaming platform has been operating for almost 20 years, and during that time many questions have been raised about the safety of its youngest users. As the publisher admits, the monthly player base of Roblox includes half of all American children under the age of 16, which has led to severe criticism regarding its moderation.
Due to the fact that a significant portion of Roblox's users consists of children, its content and operation are often the subject of debates about online safety. Legal action has also been taken against the platform, such as when Roblox faced a lawsuit from underage players' parents in November 2023. Since then, the states of Texas and Louisiana have also joined in the criticism, filing several major lawsuits in order to put pressure on the company to make significant changes to its safety procedures. Roblox is accused of falsely advertising the platform as safe for children, when in fact the age gate security measures seem insufficient to protect young players from potential grooming and abuse.

Two Underage Girls Allegedly Kidnapped by a Man Met on Roblox
Discussion of the platform's security issues has resurfaced as, according to ABC News, a 19-year-old US citizen named Hser Mu Lah Say met two underage girls on Roblox in the summer of 2025 and then continued communicating with them via Snapchat. The sisters, aged 12 and 15, were reported missing on the evening of January 31 and then found by the Georgia State Highway Patrol in the suspect's car on Sunday, February 1. The man was placed in a Georgia jail and is currently charged with two counts of kidnapping and two counts of interference with child custody.
On February 2, the Florida sheriff's department provided details about the case at a press conference. Police officers drew attention to the dangers of minors participating in communication mediated by online platforms. Roblox's chief safety officer, Matt Kaufman, also addressed the situation in a statement to ABC News, saying that the platform has solid safety policies dedicated to monitoring potentially dangerous content and communications. As an example, he pointed to the introduction of video age verification requirements on Roblox in November 2025.
This is not the first time that Roblox Corporation representatives have spoken out on the issue of child safety on their platform. In 2025, in response to growing criticism, Roblox CEO Dave Baszucki stated that parents should not allow their children to use the platform if they feel uncomfortable about it. In his opinion, the company takes measures to minimize the risk of harassment and abuse, but it is up to the parents of minors to monitor and control their children's online behavior.
Despite repeated controversies surrounding the platform, the company is attempting to regulate communication on it, such as through Roblox's update that prevents child-adult conversations. While there are doubts about the effectiveness of the measures introduced, they are a step toward increasing the protection of children online, which is particularly important on platforms such as Roblox, which are so popular among young gamers. It remains to be seen if Roblox Corporation will take further action in connection with the recent alleged kidnapping case.
