Whether you wish to complete your run or take on challenges in Dead Rails, one thing (along with a train) you simply can't afford to miss is bringing a good weapon with you. Yes, most common guns or tools can help you get the job done and shoot monsters from afar, but they aren’t nearly as useful for harder missions or when you're encountering the infamous bosses.
Right now, there are just too many weapons in the game. Some are easy to obtain but not very valuable, while others are harder to get but absolutely worth it - or sometimes, the opposite, too. So, to help you figure out the best weapons in Dead Rails and which ones you might want to simply ignore, this guide ranks them into a helpful tier list.
Dead Rails: Best Trains Tier List
To beat the enemies in Dead Rails, you’ll need a strong train; here’s a tier list to help you pick the one that’s actually worth your Bonds.
Dead Rails' Weapons, Explained
Initially, in Dead Rails, you don't get any free weapons to play with (except if you've purchased a class), so you have to have at least one to beat the enemies on the go. Players can snag most weapons at the Gunsmith or General Store using Bonds or money. Others, mainly better ones, however, need to be looted from different places, like the castle, the fort, and even camps.
Dead Rails Best Weapons Tier List
The rankings in this tier list are based on how useful a weapon is naturally for all classes and not on how many Bonds you can earn by selling them or how killer they become when used by specific classes.
|
All Weapons |
Tier List |
Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
|
Rifle (Gun) |
S Tier |
Can kill most enemies with one to two headshots. For tougher foes like Vampires, Werewolves, and Nikola Tesla, you’ll need more shots. |
|
Shotgun (Gun) |
S Tier |
High damage, low maintenance, and excellent for close-range fights. |
|
Electrocutioner (Gun) |
S Tier |
Best for difficult challenges, especially for taking down Nikola Tesla. |
|
Sawed-Off Shotgun (Gun) |
S Tier |
Rarer than a regular Shotgun, but totally worth it for the huge damage. |
|
Cannon (Building) |
S Tier |
It can do insane damage if you plan your fights right. Ammo is expensive, so use it with care. |
|
Revolver (Gun) |
A Tier |
Easy to find, cheap ammo, and well-rounded stats. |
|
Tomahawk (Melee) |
A Tier |
Normal cooldown but highest damage per hit (30). Great for quick, heavy blows. |
|
Jade Sword (Melee) |
A Tier |
50% chance to revive enemies as friends - awesome for multiplayer fights. |
|
Vampire Knife (Melee) |
A Tier |
Low base damage and short cooldown, but heals you when you hit enemies. Not ideal for boss fights. |
|
Mauser (Gun) |
A Tier |
Can miss the target, but its stats make it a solid pick in most fights. |
|
Bolt-Action Rifle (Gun) |
A Tier |
Similar to the Rifle, but pretty weaker overall. |
|
Maxim Gun (Building) |
A Tier |
Holds 100 rounds and can take down lots of enemies at once. Perfect for multiplayer and challenge runs. |
|
Molotov (Spell) |
B Tier |
Burns enemies with fire. It's a good spell but costly (and, of course, temporary). You might want to get a strong melee or pistol instead. |
|
Holy Water (Spell) |
B Tier |
Curses enemies and does lighting damage, too (though temporary). |
|
Pickaxe (Melee) |
B Tier |
Only 20 damage per hit and slow cooldown, but perfect for farming ore (breaks ore in 2 hits). |
|
Dynamite (Bomb) |
B Tier |
Can blow up common enemies and bosses as well. Great for setting traps during boss spawns, but the output doesn’t last long. |
|
Cavalry Sword (Melee) |
B Tier |
It's a decent weapon you might want to try due to its decent stats. |
|
Navy Revolver (Gun) |
B Tier |
High damage but slow fire rate. It's great for weaker enemies, but not ideal for werewolves or bosses. |
|
Crucifix (Spell) |
C Tier |
Deals a good amount of damage to groups, but it's only a temporary weapon. |
|
Shovel (Melee) |
D Tier |
Very low damage and long cooldown. Takes 40 hits to mine ores; you might want to use it only if there’s nothing else. |
