Roblox has been banned in Egypt, marking yet another country that the game has been banned in. Though Roblox is one of the most popular games on the planet, it's certainly not devoid of controversy.

Roblox has billions of registered players, and no shortage of active ones, either, with the game reporting over 100 million active daily users back in September 2025. As Roblox tries to prove that it's a safe platform for children to be playing games on, bans like these continue to put those efforts into question.

Roblox Gets Banned in Egypt

A new Bloomberg report has revealed that Roblox has been banned in Egypt by the country's Supreme Council for Media Regulation. This move follows Egyptian Senator Walaa Hermas Radwandid calling for regulation on Roblox, sharing concerns regarding the game's impact on kids' morals and educational values, as well as the ability for kids to have direct communication with strangers. Roblox notably revised its restrictions in recent history, limiting what age groups can communicate with each other and requiring age checks in Roblox by way of selfie videos to try and ensure that users are the age they claim to be.

As with prior cases of bans and lawsuits against the game and developer, Roblox officials responded to the recent ban with a statement saying that it utilizes safeguards that "go beyond those of many other platforms." It added that the company is currently reaching out to Egyptian authorities in an attempt to restore the game platform and resolve the problems the government has found with the game, adding that Roblox has worked with other regulatory rules and officials to "build localized capabilities aligned to their cultural values." Whether Egypt's officials are open to negotiation is unclear.

Egypt Roblox Ban is One of Many

Despite the huge player population of Roblox, the game is banned in a number of countries around the world. In 2025 alone, Algeria, Iraq, Palestine, Qatar, and Russia all instituted bans on Roblox, while countrywide bans in prior years include North Korea and Turkey. Some of these bans have been due to direct concerns regarding the game's impact on kids, while others have been due to nationwide bans on specific content or kids utilizing social media, online games, or both. Roblox has been successful in reversing bans on its game platform in Jordan and Kuwait, however, so it's not out of the question for Egypt to do the same.

Despite Roblox's efforts to take steps to safeguard kids, it's also subject to criticism and problems with the law its home country, the US, as well. In 2025, a family sued Roblox after a 13-year-old was allegedly kidnapped by someone they met in the game. The states of Louisiana, Texas, and Kentucky have also individually filed lawsuits against the game's developer, citing concerns regarding the safety of children. With these lawsuits currently ongoing, it remains to be seen whether the courts feel that Roblox's efforts are enough to protect underage users.

Though the biggest concerns with Roblox appear to be the potential online interactions between adults and kids, it's far from the only game to face a ban over the years. Titles like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and gambling gameplay in games like Red Dead Online and Grand Theft Auto Online have been banned or blocked in some countries, but similar decisions have also impacted some offline games, as well. Grand Theft Auto 6 is facing a potential ban in Russia, Silent Hill f was effectively banned in Australia temporarily, and other titles have had to make alterations in order to meet rules and guidelines of specific regions. Some games have managed to overturn outright bans by censoring or removing offending content, which could end up being what happens with Roblox in Egypt.
