The Batman star Robert Pattinson signed a first-look production deal with Warner Bros. This deal isn't exclusive to acting since the agreement also includes his role as a potential producer, which is a role a lot more actors are taking on recently.
Pattinson plays the lead role in Matt Reeves' upcoming Batman film. Of course, Reeves is also known for his entries in the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy, which received wide critical acclaim. Pattinson will play a younger, angrier, and darker Bruce Wayne in the upcoming film, which can very well be seen in the trailer for The Batman, where the Dark Knight beats the life out of masked henchmen. Typically in the comics, Batman has always started out more aggressive and eventually becomes more tamed as he progresses his crime-fighting career.
Pattinson's new deal is exciting people because it not only means that he will work on future projects with Warner Bros (which includes Warner film division, New Line Cinema, Warner Bros Television, and HBO Max). It also means that Pattinson will potentially star in multiple more projects, DC-related or not, which indicates he will get a lot more work since fans last saw him in Christopher Nolan's Tenet.
This news doesn't confirm that we will get multiple Batman films, but Reeves is going through interesting source material that suggests the seeds are being planted for future sequels. With the upcoming Flash movie rumored to reset the continuity, the potential of Pattinson taking over as the new Batman is very possible. At this time, it appears Pattinson's Caped Crusader will exist in a universe separate from the main DCEU while Michael Keaton's Batman will step in to fill the void left by Ben Affleck, who is stepping down from the role of the Dark Knight.
The villain of The Batman will be the Riddler, who is taking on a more dark and twisted look that's reminiscent of a serial killer akin to the likes of Jigsaw considering they create life or death puzzles. His look fits the dark gothic theme of the upcoming film, even Bruce Wayne has a much more moody look than usual.
Only time will tell if this new deal brings in new Batman films or if it's just a one-and-done deal with this caped crusader's new universe. Hopefully, the film does well and fans get to stay longer in the universe that Reeves is trying to tell. Pattinson is a talented actor and the Batman look they're going for is something unseen.
The Batman will be available in theaters on March 4, 2022.
