‘We Went Through A Lot Of Different Versions’ Thunderbolts* Director On One Major Spoiler

The Thunderbolts* director admits Marvel had different versions of one of the major turning points in the film.

Downey Jr. Shared a series of photos on Instagram related to Thunderbolts*. One photo featured him with other MCU stars — Simu Liu, Winston Duke, Paul Rudd, Channing Tatum, Chris Hemsworth and Anthony Mackie — enjoying a boys' movie night with the Thunderbolts* logo behind them. In the other photos, the group is still together, and in the caption, the Iron Man star revealed that they had dinner apart from watching the movie. However, eagle-eyed fans found more meaning in his brief caption that read:

Just wow!!! Dinner and a show with the Old Avengers. So cool, fresh, and deep. Big congrats. #thunderbolts

Some fans were fast enough to pick up on the words "Old Avengers" to figure out what the asterisk in the title meant. Apparently, in the Thunderbolts* finale, Yelena (Florence Pugh) and the other members of the misfit group who survived are rebranded as the "New Avengers." So, the Avengers OG calling themselves the "Old Avengers" was a takeaway for many. Several commented RDJ's post with some accusing him of spoiling Thunderbolts* in the caption. This has received a mixed reaction from fans. Those who felt that Downey Jr. Spoiled the movie argued that those who haven't watched it were not aware that Thunderbolts became the new Avengers. However, some said they didn't think the Oppenheimer star spoiled it because they didn't think of anything about it when they read the caption and only realized it after the commenter pointed it out. So, the real spoiler was the one who mentioned that RDJ spoiled it.

So, Did Robert Downey Jr. Spoil A Big Thunderbolts* Twist Or Not?

Downey Jr.'s post was well-received. Fans were thrilled to see him with the other Marvel stars, and while the caption of his post can be divisive – whether he was spoiling or not – one thing was true: they were supportive of Thunderbolts*. While the caption can indeed be a giveaway, it wasn't obvious, especially to those who haven't watched the film yet. And if none pointed it out, no one would have an idea what the Sherlock Holmes star was talking about. Maybe Downey Jr. Was excited about the film and pointed out its relationship with the original Avengers? It doesn't mean anything to most until some tagged it as a spoiler.

On the other hand, some were not surprised by the use of "Old Avengers" in Downey Jr.'s caption because it wasn't a secret that the original Avengers somewhat disbanded after Endgame. Iron Man (Downey Jr.) And Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) sacrificed themselves and died. Black Widow died to obtain the Soul Stone, while Iron Man took the Infinity Stones from Thanos to perform a snap and kill the Mad Titan, but it was too much for his body to handle. The rest of the Avengers are still alive and operating. Hopefully, we will see Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Captain America (Chris Evans) in the next Avengers movie. Hemsworth and Downey Jr. Are confirmed to return to Avengers: Doomsday, but the latter will portray the big bad, Doctor Doom.
