The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4 will be released next month, and the number of episodes has now been revealed. The Rising of the Shield Hero is one of those controversial hits that we get from time to time in the anime fandom. Loved by many, equally hated by many, the series has undoubtedly attracted a lot of attention every time a new season airs on Crunchyroll.

Based on the novel series of the same name by Aneko Yusagi, the series revolves around Naofumi Iwatani, an ordinary young Japanese man who is suddenly summoned to a parallel world. He is the Shield Hero, one of the Cardinal Heroes. However, the Shield Hero is considered a "weak hero." Furthermore, Naofumi is later accused of crimes he didn't commit and embarks on a journey to prove himself and regain his pride.

The Rising of the Shield Hero's legendary heroes might seem straightforward, but they're actually a lot more complicated than you might think.

Shield Hero Season 4 Will Be Out in July

According to information from the listing of the Blu-ray and DVD volumes for The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4, the series will have a total of 12 episodes. Three BD/DVD volumes are set to be released in the next few months, compiling the episodes after they air on TV, meaning that each volume should have about 4 episodes.

Crunchyroll has already confirmed it will stream the series as it airs in Japan, as the service did with the previous seasons. Crunchyroll is also expected to provide an English-dubbed version of the new season, just as it did with previous episodes. While the series is scheduled to premiere in July, no release date has been announced yet. News might surface during Anime Expo 2025 in early July.

Which Arcs Will Season 4 Cover?

Before diving into where Shield Hero Season 3 ended, it is important to note that the anime is very different from the novel, as it has skipped many parts of the original story (including whole volumes). That said, Season 3 covered up to Volume 12. So, Season 4 should start with Volume 13, concluding the Siltvelt Succession Arc, and perhaps also covering part of the Heavenly Emperor Arc.

Studio Kinema Citrus is once again in charge of the animation, with Hitoshi Haga returning to direct the next season (he directed Season 3). The first two seasons were written by Keigo Koyonagi, but Season 3 only credits "Kinema Citrus" for the story; there is a chance that the new season will follow the same pattern.

Shield Hero is available to stream on Crunchyroll, subbed and dubbed in many languages. It may also be on Netflix in select countries.
