Rick and Morty, the gonzo sci-fi cartoon from Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, is entering its sixth season on Adult Swim. To prove it, a wild new trailer has just landed, like the revamped spaceship Rick drives throughout its runtime.

The Rick and Morty s eason 6 trailer has humor, action, laser guns, weird creatures, and lots and lots of the Smith family yelling at each other or Jerry whining pathetically. In other words, it has all the ingredients fans have come to expect from Rick and Morty.

The season 6 trailer opens with Rick and Morty crouching, guns in hand, outside a store. Rick orders up a Playlist on the ship for the mayhem about to follow. Cut to two red robots in the Smith residence ordering nobody to move and Morty asking if they're all about to die. "No. We're about to vanish from this reality," Rick says, finishing up a machine. "That's totally dying!" Jerry responds.

The next scene is at Blips and Chita where Rick and Morty are playing Roy: A Life Well Lived while Summer crouches due to a sudden influx of alien terrorists. Rick tells her to "do a Die Hard" to save herself. When she asks what that means, Rick explains that she should sneak around and go through vents to stop them, referencing Bruce Willis' mission in Die Hard. “Have you ever seen Die Hard?” He asks. “ No, I’m seventeen, no I’ve never seen Die Hard!” Summer answers. “Well, neither did the guy in Die Hard, so you’re nailing it.” The humor feels like classic Rick and Morty with some pop culture references to Roiland's other wacky sci-fi show, Solar Opposites.

From there a montages begins: robots attacking the updated spaceship, encased in crystal, with lasers; Summer sporting Wolverine claws; Rick looking like an Inspector Gadget of death; Summer fighting; Rick using Jerry as a human shield (and admitting it to Jerry). The montage continues: The Smiths fleeing in their station wagon; Summer battling alien terrorists; Morty hitting a laser tripwire that blows up the new spaceship; Rick battling robot snakes with laser whips; a car chase with crashes and explosions.

Overall, it's a trailer that heavily leads into the action side of things, with the humor coming thinly after the Die Hard and human shield bits. However, like the Rick and Morty fans love, it's got that classic feeling of a ridiculous sci-fi spectacle.

Rick and Morty season 6 premieres Sunday, September 4th, 2022, at 11:00 pm on Adult Swim.
