Resident Evil Village, like many Resident Evil  games, has a seemingly impossible amount of hidden secrets and Easter eggs. Since its launch earlier this month, gamers have been putting on their detective caps and posting their findings all over the internet. Resident Evil Village got a lot right, but discovering the secrets it hides in plain view is some of the most fun to be had in the game.

In their Sherlock Holmes-esque escapades, fans have managed to uncover a bunch about Resident Evil Village' s secret endings and hidden details, revealing secrets that have potentially exposed the future of the franchise as well as some of the twists along the way. But aside from these story-defining aspects, there are a number of hidden details that make the world of Resident Evil 8  come alive in a frightening fashion. Many many not even be discovered yet, but here's some of the biggest secrets discovered to date.

Resident Evil Village's Alternate Sisters Scene

One hidden secret that builds upon the characterization of Lady Dimitrescu and her relationship with her daughters can be revealed by altering the natural progression of the game. There's a scene in Village in which Ethan oversees Lady D calling for Cassandra, one of the sisters, before demanding that she fetch Ethan's head. Fairly standard for Lady Dimitrescu, however, the player can alter this scene by killing Cassandra before they kill Daniela, in which case lady D will still call for Cassandra, but will grow frustrated at the realization that Ethan has already dispatched of her daughter.

This scene builds upon both lady Dimitrescu and Ethan's characterization by showing the notable impact Ethan is managing to have on lady D's composure. Ethan has gone beyond his characterization as a bumbling fool, struggling his way through a situation he is entirely unprepared for and has become an actual nuisance for Resident Evil's newest antagonist. By breaking down her stoic, vampiric walls, Ethan has managed to expose her human ability to grow frustrated.

Ethan Winters Survived

During the ending scene of Resident Evil Village, in which Rose and an agent from an unnamed organization are driving away from a cemetery, a figure can be seen approaching their car. The identity of this unknown figure was the topic of much speculation in the days following the game's release, but thanks to a photo mode mod, players now know the identity of the mystery man.

The mystery figure turned out to be none other than Ethan Winters, much to the surprise of Resident Evil fans everywhere who had just witnessed his explosive demise. Whether this is truly who the character model is meant to represent is anyone's guess, as it seems players were never supposed to uncover the identity of the mystery man. However, it's hard to imagine Capcom didn't think of the possibility that a quick mod to Resident Evil Village  would reveal its biggest secret.

Ethan Winters Is Infected

It is now no secret that Ethan Winters died in Resident Evil 7 for all intents and purposes. Despite remaining conscious and having full control over his mind and body, the man that once was Ethan Winter is no more, he is now one of the infected as evidenced by his ability to reattach severed limbs. The big reveal comes near the end, but for those with a keen ear for detail, the news came much sooner than that.

Throughout the game, Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters take a number of bites out of Ethan's infection-ridden body with some interesting dialogue accompanying the attacks. The first comment on the taste of Ethan Winters comes from Lady D who remarks that he is 'starting to go a little stale. However, her daughters disagree, stating that they think he is 'delicious' and that they 'can't wait' to eat him.

Removed from context, these comments can be disregarded as the four simply playing with their food, yet these comments bear a bit more weight when considering the afflictions of Lady D and her daughters. For starters, Lady Dimitrescu is a vampire, more or less, so the player should place a bit of faith in her palate for blood. If she says Ethan tastes stale, he probably does. The sisters, while also blood-sucking monsters, are a collection of blowflies that are able to take the form of a human. Blowflies that in real life have a diet consisting of decaying plant and animal matter, and as such, their taste for Ethan's blood is the earliest indication players get in RE Village that Ethan is already dead.

Although the game has now been out for quite a while, it's unlikely that every secret of the game has been uncovered. For gamers who love exploring the smallest details of every game, Resident Evil Village is quite possibly the perfect game.

Resident Evil Village is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.
