The Resident Evil games have changed quite a bit over the last few years, going from a third-person over-the-shoulder shooter to a first-person shooter. This has allowed the series to tell the stories in unique ways, based on the orientation. Both Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village has shifted the series to further heights, that by making the gameplay first-person, which in turn makes both games equally two of the scariest in the series. With Halloween in full swing, now is a great time to play these games, because of how deep and immersive they are, plus, the jump scares and the horror are the best parts about these games.
However, with Resident Evil Village back in the news, by giving players a wide amount of post-content release, like an expansion story, and multiplayer, there's quite a bit there for fans and newcomers to enjoy all over again. The unique, and interesting addition of post-content, is a mode that allows players to play Resident Evil Village in the third-person view, much like the older games. When playing this way, the gameplay feels still the same, but players may play it differently because of the orientation. This list will help players adjust to this view better, which in turn, can make the game scarier than before.
5 Study The Area
Since Resident Evil 8 Village can be in third-person now, getting through each area, and looking for resources come easily. Meaning players won't have to look directly at ammo, herbs, or other things they need. They can just look around all while Ethan is moving, which makes things much easier, players won't need to stop and look, they can do all this much more fluidly. It can also help them figure out puzzles better, for newer players of Resident Evil 8 this will help more but may take out the immersive feel.
While studying the area, they can easily find things, which may take the survival aspect out of the game. However, Resident Evil 8 is a challenge, and the boss fights are not the same, each member of the family has abilities unique to them. So, if players are able to study area, this can help them with figuring out a plan, collecting resources, or just taking in how vast and photorealistic the world looks. And this is all done better when players are put in a third-person view.
4 Time Attacks
Unlike most horror survival games that aren't in the Resident Evil series, which give players very little but an objective to escape. In Resident Evil 8 Village, players can fight back in various ways, allowing things to be more tangible. Timing attacks in first-person view isn't impossible, it's just harder since players can't tell the distance of the blade or oncoming attacks that well. In the third-person view, things become a lot more fluid, once players upgrade their weapons, and mowing down these vampires and werewolves comes with ease.
On top of that, as mentioned before, each boss battle is different, this way if players can time their attacks, beating them is easier. For example, during the first boss battle against Lady Dimitrescu, going against her in the third person is way better, especially in the second section of her boss fight. Since players can use a sniper or any other gun, the accuracy will go up. Even though Resident Evil 8 Village leans into the action aspect, the bosses make it quite a feat for horror, and being in the third person makes those fights somewhat easier.
3 Be Distant From The Danger
There are many things that are great about Resident Evil 8 Village, like the boss battles and the world-building, everything connects very well, and makes sense for the player. This is another tip, to make the game not only easier to play but highlight how good the combat is. As mentioned before, Resident Evil 8 Village taps into the action and feels a little less scary than Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. While not a bad thing, it just makes dealing with the danger manageable.
However, to make things even less dangerous for players is to get the distance between them and the enemy, in first-person, it would be hard to hard tell, just like timing attacks. If being chased, they'd need to turn around to see how far the enemy is, now all players need to do is swing the camera behind them, and can see what's going on. This makes combat, and movement a lot more immersive, which in turn can make things very scary.
2 Check Corners
Doing this was hard in first person, unless players leaned from the opposite side of the wall looking against it, they can achieve it, but will have a limited view. However, in the third-person view, they don't need to look at the corner, just pan the camera that way. This helps them hide better, or even anticipate the enemy better. After players escape the castle, they'll run into a doll house where they'll be met by a weird baby-slug-type being. During the chase, and escape section on this part, if it finds the player, it's an auto-death for them.
So the only way to deal with this creature is by hiding or evading. When in the third-person, they can easily evade it by checking corners, allowing players the get the upper hand. Which in turn makes escaping rather easy at the same time. This tip doesn't just work here, it also works for the many enemy types, especially if players are traversing the village, and being hunted. Evading becomes much less of a problem.
1 Get Headshots
One the of things that both Resident Evil 7 and 8 did well making the combat a lot more fluid, and allowing players to shoot and move at the same time. While encountering enemies was hard, and shooting isn't always a good idea, it can still help a lot more. In the third-person, getting headshots would be hard, but if players can see around them, things do get easier. This works better if they have upgraded their weapons, then the damage does quite a bit.
Getting headshots is usually the way to go, in first-person, players may feel like they have better accuracy, but will often miss their surroundings, which makes getting those shots harder. In the third-person, getting headshots are easier to do, because they can be consistent by knowing what's around them. This, in turn, will make them hit more shots.
Resident Evil 8 VIllage is available now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
