Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose takes place 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village and follows Ethan Winters’ daughter, Rose, as she attempts to come to terms with her mutant powers. Journeying into the collective consciousness of the megamycete, Rose must contend with a whirlwind of horrors as she attempts to find a Purifying Crystal that can drain her powers and allow her to live a normal life.
Familiar to players of Resident Evil Village, the Hall of Ablution in Castle Dimitrescu contains a statue puzzle that requires solving before players can move on. Unlike in Resident Evil 8, however, the Hall of Ablution puzzle in this twisted memory of Castle Dimitrescu is quite different. This guide will show players how to solve it, so they can reach the Basement and get the Silver Mask in Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose.
How to Solve the Hall of Ablution Puzzle in Shadows of Rose DLC
Upon entering the Hall of Ablution, players can see four “statues” in four corners; one impaled by arrows, one with a noose around its neck, one consumed by mold, and one stabbed with a sword. Approaching them, players may notice that - in classic Resident Evil style - they can be pushed.
At the far end of the room, they can see a plaque that reads: “Although I have just drowned, the arrows’ bite doth sting. They hanged me long ago, yet I feel everything. But still the worst, not last nor first, the sharpened blade did ring.”
Astute players will recognize that each of the punishments endured in the poem is manifested by the statues. The key to solving this puzzle is to push the statues in the correct order in accordance with the poem to unlock the way forward. Players will know they have pushed the correct statue if it stays in place and a brazier lights above it, making this one of Resident Evil's easier puzzles. Should players input the incorrect order, all the statues will reset, and they must start from the beginning.
As the plaque says, the author was hanged long ago, meaning that the statue with the noose must be pushed first.
As they were not stabbed first or last, players can safely push the sword-impaled statue second.
Thirdly, the author had just drowned, so push the statue covered in mold next.
Finally, as they can still feel their sting, the statue with the arrows must be pushed last to complete the Hall of Ablution puzzle.
This will reveal a passageway in the center of the room that Rose Winters must descend in order to obtain the Silver Mask and escape the nightmare.
