One of the last trailers at this year's Gamescom Opening Night Live showed the backstory of Resident Evil Requiem protagonist Grace Ashcroft. Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27, 2026, with the game serving as a hybrid between two distinct styles of Resident Evil games. Resident Evil Requiem will give players the choice of playing the game with a third-person, over-the-shoulder view like Resident Evil 4 and the recent remake games, or a first-person view like Resident Evil 7 and Village.
The initial reveal trailer for Resident Evil Requiem that was shown at Summer Game Fest confirmed that it would feature Grace Ashcroft, daughter of Resident Evil: Outbreak's Alyssa Ashcroft, as a surprise protagonist. That trailer also revealed that Resident Evil Requiem would see the franchise make its grand return to Raccoon City. Now Capcom has released another trailer for Resident Evil Requiem, with this one focusing on Grace's backstory.
New Resident Evil Requiem Trailer Revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live
The latest trailer for Resident Evil Requiem is set some odd years prior to the events depicted in the original trailer. In it, we see Alyssa arriving at a hotel room where Grace is typing away on a computer. It seems Alyssa, a reporter, has been working late, and that has caused some strain in her relationship with Grace. Grace then gets a mysterious phone call and the power goes out. Alyssa is suspicious that someone is after them, and so they start making their way out of the hotel. They encounter the front desk clerk, who apologizes for the blackout before he suddenly has a bag wrapped around his head by an unnamed cloaked figure that was first seen in the Resident Evil Requiem reveal trailer.
Alyssa and Grace run away, and Alyssa has to talk Grace down while she's in the midst of a panic attack. Something terrible happens to Alyssa off-screen and the trailer ends, leaving fans to wonder what happens next. The Resident Evil Requiem release date is February 27, 2026, but chances are there will be more trailers released for the game between now and then that could provide some answers. If not, fans will have to wait for the launch to learn exactly what happened to Alyssa Ashcroft in that hotel.
The new Resident Evil Requiem trailer had no sign of Leon S. Kennedy, despite persistent rumors that he is one of the game's main playable protagonists. In fact, it's been claimed that Resident Evil Requiem will be a swan song for Leon, but since he still hasn't been confirmed, that remains to be seen.
