Resident Evil Requiem will apparently be Leon S. Kennedy's "send-off game." Resident Evil Requiem was announced at Summer Game Fest with a jaw-dropping reveal trailer that confirmed Grace Ashcroft as the protagonist. However, reliable sources have insisted that Grace is one of two playable protagonists in the game, with the other being fan-favorite Leon S. Kennedy.
Leon made his first appearance in the beloved Resident Evil 2 and then solidified himself as one of the most popular video game characters of all time by starring in the universally-acclaimed Resident Evil 4. Leon was once again playable in Resident Evil 6, but has been largely absent from the franchise in recent years beyond the CG movies and remakes. Leon is rumored to be returning in a playable form in the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, and it seems that Capcom could potentially be using the game as a way to give his character a proper ending.
'100% Sure' Resident Evil Requiem Leaker Doubles Down on Leon Being the Main Character
A reliable Resident Evil leaker doubles down on their claims that Leon S. Kennedy is the main character of the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem.
Resident Evil Requiem Could Be Leon S. Kennedy's Swan Song
Resident Evil insider AestheticGamer has continued to claim that, despite Capcom seemingly dismissing the rumors, Resident Evil Requiem will star both Grace Ashcroft and Leon Kennedy as the playable characters. They recently added that Resident Evil Requiem will "come off more as Leon's send-off game," which has left some fans concerned that Capcom could potentially be killing him off. AestheticGamer acknowledged that was possible in a follow-up tweet, but clarified that they don't know if that's what's going to happen. They also said that Leon will be playable in Requiem on a larger scale than Chris Redfield was in Resident Evil Village, so that's good news for fans of the character.
If Resident Evil Requiem really does say goodbye to Leon, that doesn't mean that he will disappear from the franchise forever. It's entirely possible Capcom could make prequel games starring Leon, and he will likely continue to appear in other media. But Leon will be in his 50s during the events of Resident Evil Requiem, and so it does make some sense for him to hang up the boots, so to speak. Whether that comes from his death or if he simply decides to retire from his career of fighting bioterrorism.
Fans will have to wait to play Resident Evil Requiem for themselves on February 27, 2026 to find out for sure what's going to happen to Leon, but they won't have to wait that long to get another look at the game. Resident Evil Requiem is confirmed for Gamescom next week and is expected to drop a new trailer during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, so RE fans should mark their calendars accordingly.
