Summary

  • Resident Evil Requiem will offer players the choice between first-person and third-person perspectives.
  • In this way, it combines the viewpoints of the classic games and the newer releases.
  • Resident Evil Requiem will launch on February 27, 2026.

The upcoming Resident Evil Requiem will give players the choice between playing it in first-person or third-person. For the vast majority of its existence, the Resident Evil franchise has stuck to a third-person view for its main series games. Spin-offs like Resident Evil Survivor used a first-person perspective, but main series releases didn't embrace the format until the transformative Resident Evil 7 launched in 2017. With Resident Evil 7 and Village both using first-person perspectives, there has been some debate as to what road Resident Evil 9, now known as Resident Evil Requiem, should go down.

Modern Resident Evil releases have seen Capcom go back and forth from first-person to third-person. As previously mentioned, both Resident Evil 7 and Village used first-person perspectives, but games like the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes have all used a third-person, over-the-shoulder view. Some fans prefer first-person because they feel it makes the games scarier, while others like seeing their character and believe third-person is a better match for Resident Evil's gameplay. Luckily, the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem will let fans experience the game exactly how they want.

As confirmed by The Best War Games, Resident Evil Requiem has a toggle that lets players switch between a first-person and third-person view. In this way, Requiem follows in the footsteps of Resident Evil Village's Winters' Expansion that introduced the feature. The Best War Games also got a look at Resident Evil Requiem gameplay that featured Grace Ashcroft escaping from an abandoned hospital by finding objects to get past obstacles, which is typical of the franchise.

In Resident Evil Requiem, You Can Choose Between First-Person and Third-Person

Besides the fact that Resident Evil Requiem will seemingly give players the choice between first- and third-person views, we also know that it will feature Grace Ashcroft as a playable character. However, reliable insider AestheticGamer has said that Resident Evil Requiem will feature Leon S. Kennedy as its true main protagonist. Capcom has yet to confirm whether Leon is in the game or not, but there are some hints to suggest that he will indeed be featured in Requiem when the game launches on February 27, 2026.

Resident Evil Requiem's release date is a mere seven months away, and so fans can expect more information about the game to come out at a fast pace. We know that Resident Evil Requiem will be featured at Gamescom 2025 in August, so fans of the franchise should definitely keep an eye on the big event.
