Resident Evil  is one of the most influential horror game franchises of all time. Along with Clock Tower  and Silent HillResident Evil  helped pioneer the survival horror genre with its initial release. The franchise has come a long way since then, and is about to break ground on a brand-new CG movie.

Resident Evil  has been adapted for cinema before. There were a series of movies starring Milla Jovovich released from the early 2000s until 2016. While a reboot of the first Resident Evil movie in this series was announced in 2017, no official news has been unveiled regarding the film's release. In the meantime, fans of the series have a new piece of Resident Evil  media to look forward to on Netflix.

A trailer for the upcoming Resident Evil  CG movie has been released on the official Netflix Portugal Twitter page. This movie is the second Resident Evil  exclusive content confirmed to be in the works for the streaming service, as there is also a live action Netflix Resident Evil TV series. However, this movie appears to be taking quite a different approach.

Not only is the movie completely in CG, it also seems to have taken a few notes from the recent remakes of earlier Resident Evil  games in terms of design and style. The trailer opens with a young woman exploring a decrepit house. Judging by her red leather jacket, it could be Claire Redfield, but she looks older than Claire so it's too early to tell. The woman finds a dead body surrounded by shotgun shells, and the video cuts to its title card.

After the title card fades away, the teaser shows one man saving another from a zombie. The man is revealed to be Leon Kennedy, one of the most recognizable faces in Resident Evil. Leon appears to be wearing a suit, meaning the scene likely takes place after some fancy event, but Leon's presence in this movie ultimately leads to more questions than answers.

Based on what was shown, it's hard to pin down where exactly in the Resident Evil  timeline this movie takes place. Leon looks similar to his design in the remake of Resident Evil 2, with the addition of some facial hair. If the woman at the beginning is Claire Redfield, then it's possible this movie takes place after the incident at Raccoon City. Ultimately, fans will have to wait for Netflix to unveil an official trailer before they can find out more.
