Resident Evil's stamp on classic survival horror has endured for years, with franchise veterans such as Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield being truly iconic. Recently, Resident Evil's crossover renaissance has brought its characters to unrelated games that other fans have been able to enjoy as a result, including Dead by Daylight and Fortnite.

Fortnite's addition of Resident Evil characters is the latest crossover for the franchise, and it brings the debuts of Jill and Chris. Jill arrives with the option of either her classic Resident Evil skin with a STARS beret, or the tank top and undershirt attire that debuted in the remake of Resident Evil 3. However, because of the refined quality of Fortnite's model, fans have expressed their discontent with the lack of quality given to Jill's model in Dead by Daylight.

Resident Evil fans who are deeply unsatisfied with Jill's character model in Dead by Daylight consider her look in Fortnite to add salt to that wound. Twitter user @Levit0 demonstrates the steep diversity between models, with Fortnite's render appropriately adapting Jill to its model aesthetic, while Dead by Daylight's poorly adapts her. Further, Dead by Daylight's model is not intended to look this way and, when Dead by Daylight's graphical performance is optimal, Jill does in fact look more adequate than many players may have experienced.

Graphical issues appear to only significantly and consistently impact Dead by Daylight on console platforms, though latency bugs and other errors are ubiquitously common. Twitter user @NAMESCLAIRE has shared a side-by-side comparison of each game's model while she waits passively in a queue screen. Dead by Daylight's Jill looks proper in this queue screenshot, without any of the aforementioned graphical deformities that players have experienced.

Fans' dissatisfaction is not unjustified when assessing these character model comparisons, though. The issue with Jill's model may be a larger issue with Behaviour Interactive's attention to performance across platforms, rather than Jill's model behaving as an isolated incident. Jill is certainly not the first character model that players have found bugs and graphical issues with, after all, so fans' discontent may be better suited to assessing the differences between Behaviour and Epic Games, rather than the two character models themselves.

Regardless, Resident Evil and Dead by Daylight fans are upset that Jill's model has such glaring graphical issues and wonder why such a disparity is apparent. On the bright side, at least the version from Resident Evil 3 Remake looks great, with the graphics likely to hold up for some time.

Dead by Daylight is out for Andriod, iOS, PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
