Summary

- Operation Javier is part of the current Resident Evil main story, but not exactly as it was depicted in The Darkside Chronicles.
- Capcom is known for shaking up Resident Evil canon.
Capcom has addressed whether the events depicted in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles are canon or not. There have been dozens of Resident Evil games released over the years, ranging from main series entries to enhanced ports to spin-offs on various platforms. Capcom has brought Resident Evil to as many gaming platforms as possible since the first game launched in 1996, and that includes the Nintendo Wii.
A variety of Resident Evil games were released for the Wii over the course of that console's lifespan, including new versions of the GameCube Resident Evil games. The Wii missed out on the new main series Resident Evil games that were released during its generation, but it did receive a couple of rail shooter spin-off games in the form of Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.
Resident Evil 4 Remake Gets Big Price Drop
Capcom issues a permanent price drop for the critically-acclaimed Resident Evil 4 remake across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Both games serve as retellings of established events in the Resident Evil universe, and there's always been debate about whether they're canon or not. This debate was renewed when the Resident Evil 4 remake referenced Operation Javier, a military operation depicted in The Darkside Chronicles. IGN interviewed Resident Evil 4 remake producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi to ask if The Darkside Chronicles is definitively canon since it was referenced in the RE4 remake, to which Hirabayashi replied, "The fact that 'Operation Javier' occurred is in fact part of the current Resident Evil main story. However, as to what that mission was, it's not exactly the same as the events portrayed in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles." Basically, elements of The Darkside Chronicles are canon, but not 100% of the game or its depiction of Operation Javier.
The fact that 'Operation Javier' occurred is in fact part of the current Resident Evil main story. However, as to what that mission was, it's not exactly the same as the events portrayed in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.
Resident Evil fans are used to the franchise playing fast and loose with established canon, shaking things up regularly, retconning certain events, and adding new information to the lore. It was only six years after the original Resident Evil was released that Capcom launched the Resident Evil remake for the GameCube, which included brand-new character interactions, plot developments, and more that weren't featured in the 1996 game.
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles Operation Javier
Resident Evil doesn't even stay consistent with the way its characters are portrayed. Chris Redfield is likely the most egregious example of this, as his appearance has changed dramatically. Chris Redfield looks wildly different even from Resident Evil 7 to Resident Evil Village. So while Capcom itself doesn't seem all that terribly concerned about staying true to canon with the Resident Evil games, it is interesting to learn the company's stance on the Wii Chronicles games.
